Ive just put my HH down to moult just as the field behind me is starting to be developed for housing. Its directly behind my aviary and my bird is going nuts. Its obviously going to be all summer long and there is nothing i can do about it. Question- Should i risk moulting her and risk fret marks or should i forget about moulting this year and just fly her through the summer. I have had birds lose feathers in the past during the flying season and they have slowly came back without harm. Has anyone else had an interupted moult? advice needed!

hi alan
had same problem about three or four years ago with my fhh
i left her to it, within a week or two she got used to it
it didn't cause her any undue problems and fret marks were
minimal .the builders used to watch her in their break now and then
when the builders are aware whats there, they do seem to take care
around her
i don't believe in flying thru the moult, so didn't seem much choice.
P.S. if they stick a wooden fence around the site just be weary what they
use to paint it with
good luck

You could always moult on a running bar system, out of view,as for flying and moulting, I have a harris here that has not stopped flying, for six years in perfect condition, on a running bar, its up to you.

your harris should settle and get used to the noise ?? and moult out fine i get the mower out and have mowed my lawn with a hawk bowed out without any probs soon get used to it and now he never bats an eyelid , dont tip toe around them as you want them bomb proof as this could be some thing that comes in handy ??? say your out hunting and a big digger turns up on your land with flashing lights the last thing you need is your hawk to fly off ;)
