The moult

hi folks
I have been reading some threads that a lot of falconers set there birds now down for the moult only feed and water them over the summer why is this when wild birds continue as normal too fly and find food during the moult? why dont you fly and hunt during this time?

There is no reason why it is not possable to fly your hawk all year round but a few reasons why we put our birds down to moult are;

is all game is out of season, there is a lot of young quarry about, cover is high etc. all this makes for poor flights and the easy loss of a hawk.
