Just out of interest, who is largely accredited as being the first person to produce hybrids, when and where, and was it because there was previous data on hybrid vigour, or was this just a spin-off?

Also, in hybrids, are there differences between say a male per / fem saker and male saker / fem peregrine clutch?

A guy called John Morris and Ronald Stevens put a peregrine and a saker together and produced the first natural peri/sakers in the UK.
This was in the late 60,s or early 70,s.It is documented in Humphry ap Evans 1973 book " Falconry ".

In case you ever want to go to Ireland on holiday, it might be wise to retract your inference that Eire is in the UK!!<vbg>

The Irish are a little sensitive about not getting credit where credit is due. Especially by the English.<g> Though admitted Stevens was English, the act took place in the Irish Republic.

I think you will find that the breeding took place in Ireland... not the UK.

This is true, so I suppose the next interesting question would be ,, who was the first breeder in the uk, using AI methods, after the Americans?? and no I dont know!!

i count myself to be very fortunate to fly one of the first ever pere/saker hybreds ever bred by ronald stevens and johnny morris in 1976. one of the very 1st hybreds ever bred, long before the americans even started, i obtained the bird from a firm called long wings limited run by david horsefield at the time. she was allready a proven bird so all credit to her 1st owner but she was excellent! she had a cast on one eye but was the tamest, nicest falcon ive ever had and excellent in the field as well, chewbacca was her name.

I am not 100% sure but Len Durman Walters was one of the 1st to breed a proper falconry flying hybrid on a large scale back in the early 8o's which were Peregrine/Prairies. A lad down my neck of the woods called Myers flew a female in 81.
