What's the deal with the green dots under people's info when they post?

Harris

They are reputation points, if you click on the scales just above them, you can add to or take away reputation points, so if someone gives you some good info "like this":yawinkle: you can add to thier reputation by way of saying thanks.

obviously, mine isn't green yet though.....
The dots I'm referring to are located under a person's "location".

Thanks Harris. I thought it was related to how many posts a person had made.

No problem m8 the number of posts that a person has made is stated just above it, but you can see that anyway, the general idea is that at a glance you have some idea of a persons reputation on here, if someone is a complete idiot you can take away their rep points.

Take care

Jimmy, I should have also mentioned that if you click on "user CP" top left of the page, then scroll to the bottom of the page, you can see who has given you points with any comments they have made.

I understand what the Reputation Points are for but, when checking reputation points after clicking on "User CP" some Reputation Squares are lit up while others are not, what does it mean when the Reputation Squares are not lit up?

I've checked under the help section beside the "User CP" but still can't find anything regarding the Reputation Squares being lit up or not.

Thanks,
Brittney

Not enough points to light it yet??

I have no idea?

Like I said in my previus post, I like the idea of the reputation points. I have given reputation points to several people on here before, I have just noticed the lit up/not lit up thing in the last two days. :?

Ohh well, I'm not overly worried about it... just curious, :)

Thanks anyways.

Actually I thought your post about changing your avatar was one of the best!!! Theres some additional system, that I can't even begin to understand, regarding the correlation between reputation points and green squares...with some people having more clout than others. It was explained somewhere else, by Sparrow I believe, but I didn't grasp it.

Moved from General Falconry Talk

Due to the site upgrade the number of green squares everyone has appears reduced. The points that go to make up the green squares is still the same.

I also seem to have lost a few, but as they are unimportant it does not matter. Their disappearance seemed to coincide with my posting a warning relating to dangerously defective falconry equipment, which some unfortunate fellow was considering buying. The post was deleted well within five minutes. In other circumstances such alacrity would be commendable, but here it was at best very irresponsible and undermines the fundamental reason for this forums existence, it was toadyism of the worst kind. One need hardly add that there was no contact from the moderator/administrator responsible, to offer any explanation.

This is complete speculation!

The reputation feature was disabled (along with many others) when the site was hacked in order to get the site up and running again as quickly as possible. The reputation feature is still not available and the so called 'loss' of green squares is due to the site upgrade following the hack. You cannot 'lose' reputation squares in any other way. If you get bad rep, this does not remove squares.

So before the forum goes rife with conspiracy theories the reputation feature has been amended, resulting in less visible green squares, but the same points as pre hacking. The feature is still disabled for the current time.

If you have a problem with the loss of a thread or post around this time, PM a moderator. But dont jump to conclusions.

Thank you for your reply F.H.F. I fully accept your assurances that the disappearance of green squares and various other anomalies are due entirely to the site having been hacked and being subsequently upgraded to increase security. At no time did I claim that the squares were removed as a result of my said post- my words were "seemed to coincide". None of the above in any way negates the validity of my said post and the fact that it was unlawfully removed by a moderator/ administrator for ulterior motives. I have nothing to retract, my claims can be verified and please don't suggest that I might be "jumping to conclusions".

Unfortunately, many posts and threads went missing around the time the site was hacked as the administration team backed up the site to the last unhacked point. Which is why I mentioned about 'jumping to conclusions', and this applies to anyone who lost threads or posts at this time.

I would prefer to avoid the usual round of conspiracy theories that abound following a statement that a moderator removed posts 'unlawfully'. If you have proof that your post was removed by a moderator, fair enough. If you have a gripe about it, PM the site owner.

this is jumping to conclusions. When the site was hacked, the forum had to be resored to a previous date a couple of times to get it safe and running again. ALL THREADS AND POSTS DURING THIS TIME WERE LOST, including some of mine and other moderators, IF a moderator deletes a thread it is left on the database where other mods can still see it and we make a decision whether to reinstate, if it was deleted by a mod it would still be on the database. your thread was lost not deleted, that is why you did not recieve a pm about it being deleted, because we didn't delete it

I will not hijack a thread or air grievances in public; doing so would surely delight the antis whom we inevitably have as members. Your viewpoint is understandable but mistaken and I will shortly send you a p.m. with full details of the incident, any discussions will henceforth have to be in private. I shall now go and ride my horse.
