What do you prefer corner ledges square or diaganal? or a central square nest ledge ? ive seen both in use i personally like the look/ idea of the corner legdges as the falcons (chicks) will have something to snuggle up against any thoughts? mike

In my opinion, the best one I've seen so far was a ledge that ran the length of one side of the mew. It was fairly narrow and was placed high up, closer to the ceiling. To view the scrape you had to climb a ladder and look through a small slot. My breeding mew isn't anywhere as nice, but I made two large square ledges, one for each far end. The square ledge seem to work well in my rectangular-shaped mew. Perhaps the corner style ledge works well in a mew that has square dimensions ?

Tried allsorts for imprints the corner ledge is what works for me best no higher than waist height for falcons. so its easy to get over to inseminate. If the Falcons back up into the corner , I just but a rock there to keep them out till I have finished inseminating for the season.

Colin,

Back when I had imprints I'd go ahead and position her in the best position for AI. Seems you can move a receptive falcon around without too much bother on her part. But the last 2 imprints I had were much better at copulating on a shelf perch and not in the nest ledge. I'd do the courting, mutual ledge display, etc then leave the ledge and stand in a corner waiting for the female to solicit copulation. These two falcons would fly to a ledge and do their thing, then I'd do my thing and leave.

Also my nest ledges were no higher than chest high. Probably a little lower was better. Also I've had them in corners and rectangular ones about half way on a wall. Didn't seem to matter to the birds. I think a corner diagonal is probably better.

For females a corner legge at waist hieght with no high perches so wherever she stands you can get to her and males ledges/perches higher up so they come down onto your hat was what I was taught.
