PMSL:supz: your on form tonight!!
I have heard that smearing mustard on a leash makes it unplesant for a bird so they give up, never tried it but worth a try.

Try the mustard first. If that doesn't work try braiding one out of Spectra. It is almost indestructible, but expensive.

I tried this once. The bird concerned did not mind the mustard, but its tongue went bright yellow. In earlier times canary breeders used mustard and paprika pepper as colour feeds.
It is worth a try.
As far as I can ascertain, most raptors have minimal sense of taste, so I'm not sure if mustard would work.
How about winding a piece of wire along the leash attached to a battery - if that doesnt work, then use the mains :)
Seriously - somewhere on here I read a thread regarding click-training & use of click-training to stop unwanted behaviours, maybe worth looking for

have used mustard myself in my FHH's first year, and it worked a treat.... used the english musterd myself and it had the desired effect - have heard of someone using horseraddish on a persistent offender but can't vouch for it effectiveness except to say that if you put some on your tongue and see how you react hehehe

If she is always picking at the leash I would think about why.Perch her in a different place,a more stimulating area where she sees more going on,move her around your garden, give her something else to occupy her time like tennis ball or dog toy etc.Alternatively why not free loft her?

my bird used to bite at leash and it caused injury to her gape quite badly, I tried bitter spay for bird and it did not work at all so I doubt the mustard will. I solved the problem by free lofting her and it worked.

I have used chilli sauce with some success for game hawks that have taken to chasing ( and catching ) corvids, maybe this would work with your leash problem, but I would definatly get her some 'toys', the 'kong' dog toys work well as they are vertualy indestructable and you can hide food inside them.

I myself had one peregrine falcon that used to bite buttons of the leather leashes. In no time. The other falcon smashed its tallons in the climb cords used mainly as leashes in current times. Destroying them in no time. So what i did is just giving the leather leash destroyer a climb cord leash and the climb cord destroyer a leather leash. That worked OK. Do not know whether this might be solution for the hawk you are dealing with. Another solution that might be needed if nothing else works is just some aviary. Other falconer I know had to use it with some peregrine tiercel who liked to bite through the jesses in no time.

Try wasabe.
You can plait a single & double length of Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene string (orange or green crabline) but you can't glue it (& shouldn't "weld" it)
You can get kevlar re-inforced polyester cord

So you want to know the old way of stopping it bitting the leash.
Get a leash and rub its own mute into it. work for all birds. May need repeating for upto a week.
