The slijper hood lizard tail is also a good choice for spar! I also will have a M-J hoods lizard tail slijper hood for my spar in some weeks. Size for female spar is about 35S (that is at least the size i get after measuring the spar).

Upstairs for thinking downstairs for dancing :supz:
Very wise m8, If you dont start hooding a Kestrel from day one its hard work to get them standing well to it.
Hope you have fun with it Steve, you trying for a male or female?.
(Males seem to make better lure falcons)
One thing I found with Kestrels was that if you want a good lure Kes then you always need to call them to the lure from the fist of another, dont ever be tempted to call it to the lure from a post or the job is knackered!
Gareth will no doubt have told you this already m8.

Makes perfect sense :yawinkle:
I have seen good Females too just not as many as males.
The problem is that kestrels are often flown from posts to the fist for a long while before the are entered to the lure and this is why 99% are spoiled and turn out as sitters.
Start with the lure once its coming 12ft to the fist as you would with a perigrine and hope for the best m8.
I hope shes a good un for you 8-)

never heard this before blackbird, can this not be corrected by hiding the lure if they pitch, my kes has only been flown to the glove for the last few years and in a week she has gone from passing and pitching to 3 passes then rewarded, which i think is a pretty good start, she has totally lost intrest in the glove now though lol, she is starting on a post at the moment but i'm hoping she will start going off to "play" and i will call her in to the lure from the air.

Claire,
Its certainly not unheard of but is not the norm by any means.
I have seen two kestrels that would stoop hard at the lure like a pursuit falcon and would and put in 50+ passes without sitting, these were trained In the way I describe.
For the two good ones I have seen a score that would do three to five passes and sit, then do another three or four and sit again.(One of mine included  )
All of these birds were called from posts instead of the fist
Kestrels seem more predisposed to sitting than other falcons, large and
small.
