Ok, we had a "egg thread" earlier on, what about chicks? How are you doing?
I am very pleased with my fertility and hatch rate so far. I have 4 out of 5 out from my gyr/saker "Sweet Pea" and 4 out of 4 from my gyr/saker "Lina".
Have 3 out of 3 from my light peregrine out as well, still a few to come but I am very happy so far.
The chicks are still just babys in the rearing room, but a coupple should be old enough to go with parents in the next coupple of days!!

The lanners first effort produced two fertile eggs but sadly one had a large crack and died about 22 days in .. the other hatched fine and is a female which is been imprinted for future AI breeding ... so very pleased with that 11 days old now growing well ... My old pair of reds had one fertile egg from three that too has hatched well and as on its fith day and growing really well .. the reds recycled and are on two eggs so the red chick will go back in with them soon or with a harris female currently sitting on 4 blank eggs...
I delibratly have not bred my harris's this year
What does every one feed there young chicks on mine seem to be doing well on whole quial and weaner rat ground up in a old fashion hand mincer...?

Hello Matt
Do you ever get trouble with unretracted yolk sacs or wry neck using bantams full term? I know chickens incubate slightly higher than the larger falcons. But i know one or two that start their falcon eggs under bantams and say they are great for the first ten days.

Could you imagine if all those birds were kids? Would you be as keen?
I wish I had a back garden as big.

One more Pere/Barbary hatched and another pipped.
Any interesting swaps anyone (falcons)?? Would be interested in Barbary's (any age/sex) Adult female Peregrines, some mixture of Gyr/Saker with a lot of white in (!) or adult imprint female saker (maybe!).
Or they may be for sale.
Cheers

Three of the five merlins.
Very nice indeed, Are they to be imprints or creche reared.Merlins are very fickle, they can be and are amongst the best standing imprints. But rearing them together will not help, but creche reared breed well with their own kind.

Ok, so can anyone tell me whether these three merlins, reared together as imprints will go on to stand for AI as would a single reared eyass?
I'd like to hear from someone who has actually imprinted eyasses together and knows from experience please.
