Is there anyone here with a male spar that they could get semen off??? friend of mine he is good in artificial insiminating he knows the process. So all i need now is spar semen!!! As soon as possible

But now some serious question...apart from the fact that the idea of artifical insimination of female spar is quite rediculous. Would it be possible? I think it is interesting to know whether small BOPS can be artificial insiminated. More in general also in fact i would find it interesting to know. I posted this as a joke but actually thought about it to get more detailed insights into possibilities of artificial insimination.

Why not? Works with Merlins.

Though if Spars are as easy to breed as its said, why?

well that is also what i think...but...like i stated i would be interested to know whether artificial insimination has been used with small BOPS and then not only merlin but also small accipiters (since i think that would be more difficult practically speaking). It is just because of interest what is possible or would be possible.

I know of 2 people who have inseminated spars, and got fertile eggs, but all the chicks died at pip, but this was down to poor incubation,

Fair play Wilfred.

Why do you think AI with small accipiters would be harder than with Merlins?

On one of the email lists a year or two ago a guy was wanting to put Gos semen into a Spar, I dont think he managed it though.

Guessed as much

Do you think this had any baring or purely, incubation mistakes?

Wilfred, Your spar is parent reared, get a p/r musket or give it up as a bad job.

Forced insemanations on a spar

I assumed he'd imprint if seriously considering AI with a Spar?

As a point of interest, does anyone collect semen from a Jack?

to be clear: i myself would never insiminate in case there are enough male BOP's available. In case of spar definitely not. And actually i would not go for AI with any BOP as long as it is not necessary. But I do have an interest just to know what is possible.

About forced inseminations..actually i think this is some good thing to think about. Although AI seems to not harm a BOP i am quite sure it gives much more stress than most people realise. We all know how smart BOP's actually are.

The chap has a standing spar that lays early, he had 8 fertile eggs in 2 years and did not hatch one, i would say poor incubation methods used,
