View Full Version : Another leaving... Jack Merlin

Jack Merlin
18-05-2006, 11:59 AM
Because of a private message I have received from one of the moderators I have decided to leave the forum.

I was attempting to pre-empt one of those rows for which this forum has become famous, but it seems he prefers it to continue.

When people have matured a bit, I hope to return as I think HawkMaster is doing a good job here and has got some very good falconers contributing.

I have already stated on that thread that it is closed so far as I am concerned, so please do not try to stir me into commenting further.

I have also pm'd BB to have the thread locked.

You have surely read Gaz's second post and must realize that he is under strain due to his recent bereavement. Even so, I won't tolerate personal attacks.

Are you a moderator or not? Or are you seeking to stir up a flull blown row?

I have had several run ins with "the usual suspects" on other lists and I don't intend to have one here.

If you can't see where the thread is leading, I really don't know why you were ever given the job of moderator!

derry stir it im not...i just said how i see it thats all.
yes you are right with gaz's responce....but my personal feeling is came on the back of his predicument at the moment with his father just dying...

and as you have now asked the thread will be closed

You will avoid a lot of problems on that forum if you recognise when things are getting personal and nip it in the bud.

I have nothing against you (why should I?), but the first drafts of my pm just about short circuited this computer! There really is no need for half the nonsense that appears on this forum.

Posters ought to be checked immediately it starts to get personal, abusive, or four letter words are included in a post. But then that's just my opinion and probably isn't worth much.

so just out of interest why was tim and myself removed from your list?....cos it strikes me you are one of the pettiest of them all iff i am honiest.....

Tim stood by you ...and you did this....how petty is that ay

this is it

I do post this message and am about to be sure that mass will close it. But, strongly require this post to be not closed at least not before things are clear. At least to me this is important and also the other members on the forum have the right to know what is going on here.

Jack Merlin was one of the best if not the best falconers here on the forum. With the best knowledge and contributions you could think off. I would like to know the role of Mass in the decision of Jack Merlin leaving. If it is an important role, to me Mass has to leave forever from both IFF and the forum. Do not want to see him here again in that case.

Again, i strongly require this threat to stay here open not closed at least till tomorrow. People here on the forum have the right to know what is going on this is a public forum not a forum from Mass.

I have been in a professional leadership position for many years and I know how draining it can be when you are experiencing a continual assault on your authority....but even though I am entirely empathic with HM's position I do not feel that recruiting, what I experience as 'bully boys' to sort members out is the answer to the quite typical problems which occur in any forum inviting open and honest discussion. I do not feel that this forum can afford to lose people like Jack Merlin and I also sincerely regret the loss of Yarak 1, amongst others.Despite the fact that the thread on Yarak 1 was closed both Blackbird and Mass have misused their authority to reopen it in order to make snide comments about Annie, at the end of which it is again closed so that there is no possibility of response. I agree entirely that this is a forum for discussion about falconry, which is why I joined, but these discussions have to be skillfully facilitated and actually allowed to happen. I have learnt a great deal about falconry from people like Jack Merlin...there is nothing to learn about gangs, cliques, and bullying that I do not already know. Who will be left at the end of all this then...Blackbird, his first line henchmen and all the sycophants that follow in their desperation to be part of the gang? If this ends up being my last post before I'm banned....then I shall go down saying what I believe to be true according to my signature. I am aware that I can be discredited by my lack of long term falconry experience, but none of these manipulated removals of key individuals is actually about falconry is it?

Wilfred I think you are upset because Derry has decided to leave. Sometimes people just go and no one is to blame other times people leave because they feel they have been wronged people leave for a number of reasons it is no good blaming anyone. I think if you get in touch with Derry he will tell you his version of why he left. I think an apology is in order myself to Mass from yourself for going off on a tangent at him. Thats my opinion.

Cheers Joe

I think this is the third time this has happened isn't it? A pattern is forming.

People need to get a bit of scope, history, perspective and a solid grounding in facts.

If you mean by that there is a pattern in people leaving since recently i agree. And yes, i myself think to see a connection between mass the way he moderates and people leaving the forum. That is a fact that i see that but, i can be wrong of course. All i say is that people here have a right to know what is going on.

jeez this is all from being on a computer its nice to all get on but its not as if we all have to sit down together for dinner every night is it,I for one will miss Jack Merlins posts but if he chooses to leave thats his decision i am suprised it was started on that thread as following his posts on here he doesnt usually rise to comment or critisism he just lets people voice thier opinion which is the way a public forum should be, I hope he returns some time soon to continue passing on his knowledge and enlightening us with his tales.

This being a public forum..I think we all have a right to voice our opinion. Secondly if I have a disagreement about a particular issue we should work our way roiund it. We are all here for sharing our thoughts and ideas on falconry... So why are we deviating from the mainstream and letting petty things affect all here???? What will the new joiners think of us.... Is this what we are all about ????

I will definitely miss Jack or any one who has been an active member and given valuable inputs.

We for one are like minded people with a common passion... Still there is so much of hypocracy... THIS SUCKS..

I hope the Moderators will take this seriously and see that such instances donot recur....

Jack / Mass if you are reading this mail.... Please sort this issue and continue with the forum. Why so much of an ego issue with all you guys....

I have seen it here in the forum, where some members reply so rudely.... Is that really necessary????

Looks like we now need to have a voting system to decide who is right or wrong..

I SWEAR GUYS ... THIS IS SO CHILDISH....

The other day I needed an urgent help from a moderator and Kentish came to my rescue... He was so freaking helpful.... I was happy to be a part of this forum... Now again this has taken an ugly turn...

P.S. Thanks once again Kentish...

No Wilfred, I have been on this forum for about 2 years and prior to the change in moderation people fell out and left. Even if Phillip Glasier was a mod, people would feel hard done by. You can't please all the people all the time and the world still spins without this bloody forum and some of its members.

Derrys a decent guy. Anyone who could train my dog long distance is OK in my mind. Ya'all are gonna miss out.

Somehow these falconry forums get all tangled up with tangled webs woven by different folks.

How many moderators in the forum here??? Why is none replying to this thread.. Do they all think alike or is it a unanimous decision???

Just wanted to know how this works???? It would be better if all moderators discussed over such sesnitive issues and voiced their opinion unanimously....

great idea! and yes in fact coping with the moult although it has a lot of good sides also is difficult :-(.

I also do not like this kind of situations but asked for reopening just because i do not like to be kept stupid about certain issues an meanwhile seeing some good people leave with certain unknown reasons.

I personally cant see what was offensive about any of gaz's posts (unless they have been Modded) so am unsure of what the complaint to the Mods by Derry was about.

gaz was simply stating that making a PR Gos steady does not in itself make someone a master falconer.

I wasnt commenting on the pm's, merely Gaz's posts which seemed to lead to them. I cant see anything inflammatory in your pm responses.

I would say referring to people with the "dick size" thing is more inflammatory

It is Jim, but its also a shame there cant be differences of opinion on subjects without resorting to statements and expressions that will undoubtedly set the fireworks off.

I am hugely interested in the opinions of ALL the shortwingers on here but sadly when they get going on an interesting discussion it always ends acrimoniously which is a huge shame because it is of great interest to me and many others who have not had the opportunity to fly a shortwing.

That is the great shame for me.

On a serious note...I suspect he will be back. He has a mountain of knowledge and has spent many years imparting it in various formats. He was a teacher and it is what he does. He likes the forum but not some of the rough housing that goes with it.

But I hope he will return.

Some people can "dish it out" but take offence when it's returned or a statement is queried - but that's life, just need to develop a thicker skin and lighten up ;) .
