Make it as wide as you can and as high as is practicable, then it can be used for anything :yawinkle:

Another thing is that if you are going to make it sit into a base then make sure that the perspex tube is the "Male" and the base it sits into is the "female" otherwise you will have **** running out of it :yawinkle:

Here is my "Travel tank" for trips out etc

Not bad tanks those Tim look very much like the ones I bought from Raptor Box, are they from the same company?
Easy to clean and disinfect as well

How exactally did you make it? Did you have to use some sort of heater to bend the stuff?

I would look at a large flower pot saucer if you can get one big enough with a good hieght in the sides.

The perspex can be bent by hand and once rivited will stay in position, I however do not like this as there is the capacity for an accident to happen.

I formed the plastic cylinder and then stress relieved it in an a stove enameling oven for five mins to "Normalise" the grain srtucture of the perspex.

This creates a perspex cylinder with minimal stresses and if the material cracks the whole thing will not go "ping"

1st Pic of an imprint tank made by raptor box with a pair of my spars, this type of tank is sufficient for one bird but with two it's too small and it easily gets dirty. Thinking this may be the case I built a larger tank before there arrival.

Here's a pic of the tank I made. It's 4'x4' I drilled and bolted the sides together so I can dismantle and store the sheets when not in use. It wasn't the cheapest thing in the world to make but I find it did the job well and gave them room to move about. I used a groundsheet for ease of cleaning so it was just a matter of lifting the frame up removing the sheet and replaced it with a fresh clean one. (not sure what these pics will come out like as I had to reduce the size and quality of them as they were too big)

Well ... That was an intresting experiance ....

It was made well worked well > I just lifted the tube to fit a heated pad and it exploded into about 10 different pieces .. Bloody good job I had removed the chick first

That's my second bad experiance with perpex ... not sure ill bother again...

In the early stages of imprinting I have found the modern plastic hamster cages very good. The bottom half is solid plastic and the top half is clear plastic. They unclip into two parts and are very easy to clean and very portable. There is a wire door on the top so ventilation is not a problem. This door is removed easily and when the bird first starts standing up it peers through the door.
It can then be transferred to the larger imprint tank after that.

Perspex,polycarbonate polypropylene?

What do you use ?

StormRider

If you can get your hand on polycarb this would be better. Polycarb is designed for impact situiations where as perspex is brittle and not good structurally. Polyprop for the base is perfect as this has little absorption rate for a plastic and is not as oil derivative as the rest.
Hope this helps.
As far as the size is concerned I would always go for as big as I could get.

Hi Lee if its pictures of imprint tanks you want here is mine, i made this one semi-circle so it could go against a wall of the house , its a metre and a half wide, its a piece of plywood on its end with thin perspex[ plastic] bent into a semi-circle , drilled and screwed to two battons at each end, hope this helps, the bird is a prairie, mark.

Mark, many thanks...I am not 100% sure which other pics were omitted but seeing your semi-cicular setup is great and I love the idea of having something fit against a wall but yet having relatively few "corners." Your system for hanging the lure, hood & glove on tha tank wall is also a stellar detail for keeping them in view yet relatively clean from mutes.

Also, I have been lurking on your "Prairie Falcon" thread and have found your perspectives on the bird very refreshing, I wish folks on this side of the "Pond" spoke as highly of the species as you do.

Regards,

Lee

I can not see the photos of imprint boxes here anymore so if people having good ones can post again this would be much appreciated.

I am looking for examples of not round but square imprint tanks. But also i would be much interested in minimal dimensions for 2 young sparrowhawks?

@ work i might be able to get a square box that is even also for polycarbonate the upper part. But need to know wheter I can use. It is about 30 * 30 * 30 cm or so i guess...

What is normal size well about needed for sparrowhawk imprint tank??
