After gale force winds and heavy rain, it finally got out nice enough to fly my kestrel late this afternoon, as I was walking her to the field I fly her on she started screaming, I looked up and saw a male kestrel hovering above us. He flew off so I decided to fly her, shes starting to fly to the the lure now and I'm getting three or four passes now before letting her have the lure, I did that twice and was putting her up again, she went and sat on a fence when the little male came back and sat on a roof nearby, he started calling she started calling and next thing I knew she was on the roof and he was hovering above her trying to do the business  I got the lure out but she didn't want to know ( I wonder why lol) then I threw her end piece out a couple of times and she came down, For a minute I thought he was coming down too lol, he swooped down hovered and then flew off, I have never known this happen before, I was more worried she would get chased off. :-P

lovely story that Claire,
great to hear and must have been wondefull to watch.
its things like that which really brings a smile to your inner side.
excellent.
Just goes to prove a femail is not interested on an empty stomach. If had been the other way around he would have been off and not back till the early hours.

i had more or less the same thing happen to me years ago.
but my female kestrel ended up catching the male kestrel which i later released unharmed.just minuse a few feathers.
she loved chasing wild kesses after that.but as you have said could end up looseing your bird.due to it chaseing wild ones.

lol she wasn't chasing it she was quite happily sitting there while it tried to mount her. ha ha not sure how the paperwork would be sorted out if she laid. I've seen it before calling her from the opposite rooftop while she is tethered, There used to be a local female but I haven't seen her this year which is a shame, and might be why he is showing such an interest in her.

he's pretty, morgan is flying through the moult she has only lost two secondrys so far, but last year she was in a centre, so she is used to flying through it, but used to get winter off but now flys all year. realling enjoying getting her going to the lure though. I'd like to try to hunt her but the only thing she has shown any interest in so far is a frog lol, but she was tethered at the time.
