Hi All

Its that time of year again ..... thought you would like to see how to make this http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

This example is for a Tiercel Pere or similar sized (like a Lanner female http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif )

** Remember to put a spot of super glue on the cable tie to prevent tightening any further

How to make ....follow this link (http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/BB_Cable.htm)

I always put this type on when I first get a bird and then take off when I have a tailmount installed :) Its not a permanent thing just a stop gap.... when flying I like to have nothing on the legs.

i also dislike cable ties around birds legs... simply make a leather bewit..

"Its not a permanent thing just a stop gap"

which is strange considering its much more difficult to make than a leather bewit?

Never used them but does this not answer any fears of cable ties on legs?

you can run the cable tie through a plastic sleeve, like the old DOE cable tie rings. This gives a smooth surface against the tarsus and stops it tightening.
If you cut a little notch in the sleeve you can also keep the metal loop of the bell from coming into contact with the leg.

Hi MJ

That was very useful... Just a question wouldnt the sound of that bell get muffled with that address plate touching the bell ???? I think it would be beter to get that address metal plate a bit away from the bell.... What do you say ???

Hi Sandeep.... as the cable tie tightens around the Tarsus ..... the reward tag pulls away from the bell .... So no problems :)

those who say dont use cable ties on bop legs - how about on the anklets through the eyelets - is that anyway safer?? :D

Why use this method and why fit a tie wrap through the anklet ??????????????

Traditional bewit fitted in seconds, nice and easy. Bells fitted to the anklets is lazy and a good chance of bruising the foot etc.

I use the cable tie to anklet method for Goldens as the Aquila is booted all the way down its leg. I loose enough feathers with anklets so a bewit would make the situation even worse. I dont use cable ties on other birds though, the bewit is best.

I do the same with the Ferru as otherwise I would have the same problem.
