ive got one thats a polystirene box supermarkets use to ship broccoli in
reptile heat mate in the bottom with a thermostat
cover the mat with a few rags pop the eggs in and turn daily then pop in a small bowl of water to keep the humidity up
i use mine for quail and id say i get about an 85% hatch rate

It was probably 30 years ago but I can remember (unusual for me these days)
seeing Bob Creases' first attempts at building his own incubators. One looked like the pollished plywood case to a 1950's TV. It worked well enough. I think the key was the use of the Robbins mecury thermostats.
The solid state stuff of today seems to be more accurate.

I thought about building my own and had the following concerns;
My biggest concern with building a home made incubator would be controlling temperature distrubution through the unit.
Also i couldnt think of how to build an autoturner so would have to manually turn :-(
In the end I bought a commercial incubator.
I never considered using glass for the heat containment, but I have to admit it could result in good even heat distribution.
Having looked at the photo of the incubator shown above I can see at fairly simple way to make an autoturner using some fairly cheap parts.
If anyone is building an incubator like this and would like to build an autoturner drop me a PM and I'll explain how to do it.
If youre prepared to do a how-to thread for other users to put up here, I'll do the same for the autoturner.
wire in a computer fan or amplifier fan from maplins or an electronics shop.
