I have 2 birds this year that haven’t even started the moult! One is a gyr/per the other Is a gos…. the longest day is nearly here and they haven’t dropped 1 feather between them!…as any one tried rapid moult that the bird care company sell and is it safe for raptors…. because for what I have seen its for cage birds?
This is the first time in 15 years that this has happened!
I normally start the long wing flying in late July early august to the kite…. so he is fit for the pheasant season…. At this rate I will have to buy a gun! has any one else had this problem?
Thanks...... martin

We had a bad spring this year, so I noticed even wild birds a little later, a shortage of food in the wild will make a difference, but in captivity thats not a problem, but over the years I found they usally catch up in late summer, I dont realy start hunting now untill the end of september, with made birds, to early and I feel Im hunting in the summer!! I tend to fly eyasses much later in the day, when its cooled down, but it is heaven to be out, late afternoons with a merlin in hand, it just seems now that summer starts later, and ends later,, was it not Jack mavro,, that said, hawking starts after the firsts frosts had killed the daliahs? this makes sense as decreased appetite in hot weather, makes for hard work, for me and the birds!!

Harris has hardly dropped anything, not too sure about the ferru as she is destroying them before I can get to them this year...but I would say that the moult does seem to be slow starting for me this year.

I use BirdcareCo's Potent Brew and Bioplus on my parrots and it really works well. Had a 5 week old baby cockatiel leave the nest on monday and he's fully feathered and flying. The adults moult niticably faster than before I used it, although in all honesty moulting is nowhere near as big a thing with my parrots as with the hawk.

One thing is its water soluble so you may have to crop tube the bird to get it down her neck reliably. Anyone else know a better way to get liquids down a hawk's neck?

I would suggest trying lamps but at this time of year the days are more than long enough.

Inject it into a chick head although if you are thinking pints that may be difficult!

I also have a gyrxpere, but who was under a strip light above his shelf perch that was timed to come on 12pm to 12 am every day during feb march april,{free lofted end of april}today he through his 10th tail feather, and has the last 2 primaries to go,he's through over half his other feathers and its onlt the 9th of june,he's going to be a stunner in his new dark grey plumage 8-) .It also worked on a female peregrine after her first season too. she had a full set of new primaries and was flying free mid august,,the following year i just turned her loose in a chamber without starting her of on extra light, she never completed her moult until the end of october..

was having the same problem up until 2 wks so I fed just DOCs for 5 days then swapped to quail and rat and seemed to do the trick ( but this did coinside with the wet cold weather turning to warm sunny days) . Wish you the best of luck its been a funny olf moult this year.

Ive a peresaker female, only dropped 4 inner primaries about 6 weeks ago, these are nearly down now, no sign of anyother primary, secondary , tail or body feather coming out yet.

flies at 1lb 14oz and is on quail and current weighs 2lb 2oz , blocked out daily from 7 am till dusk.
