A falcon I bred and imprinted last year has gone through all the usual
courtship display this season, ie scraped, ledge displays ect, not unusual
exept ten or so days ago she stood for insemination as a mature imprint
would do, this again not too unusual. the shock tonight was an egg in
her scrape, has anybody else had a scottish peregrine lay at one??
Mike.

It must be a mackam pergerine mate. You cant tell the difference apart from the tracksuit. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Can remember reading in a N.A.F.A. mag years ago about a first year wild female producing young in a nest box in one of the cities.

My 1 year imprint F Peregrine has only just started showing a real interest in a scrape etc. Previous to this I could get some encouraging sounds from her but that was about it. Has yours only recently started showing all the correct signs or was it from early in the season?

Hello Andy
She has always been a full on imprint, Lots of bowing and chupping even
last year, I think she has been encouraged by hearing other imprints and
pairs of peregrines breeding.
Saying that she is the most switched on imprint falcon I have worked with
what your falcon is doing now is normal so you should have no worries.
I have a one year old reared the same but from different parents and
apart from vocalising she is not doing a deal, I am not worried cause she
will when she is old enough.
I have just hatched a falcon that is the sister to the the one year old layer so it will be interesting if she turns out the same, watch this space!

A few days ago I had a vacant pen a 2005 falcon was put in to help her through her moult, and reduce my work load (one less tethered Falcon) In a week she has scraped and is now sitting chicken eggs. I did this with her sister from 2004, and at 2 produced a clutch of 5 eggs stood voluntry all fertile. On the other hand waited 7 years for a Peales X Scottish to lay, and she was really late her No: 1 egg pipped today. After a bit of investigation from others who have the Peales X scottish Line it seems to be the norm. Her sibling sister still has not laided. Its a funny old game this breeding!!!!!!

Strangely enough, I did give her an infertile Peregrine egg this afternoon and she immediately went to it, chupped over it and was turning it etc...
She seems well pleased with it! I will probably give her another one tommorrow or the next day etc.

Thanks Mike for the info. Interesting! This is the first time I have reared birds for AI so it is all a bit new too me after 26 years of doing natural pairings!
The male I imprinted last year gets on the hat (well not now because I stopped a while ago), shuffles around on his hocks for only a few seconds making all the right noises then stands up. I have been pleased with his progress so far.

Well, I gave the female a clutch of infertile eggs and at first although showing a marked improvement in behaviour and loving them at first, she actually never sat. It still seemed beneficial though and she seems to have matured a bit. I then gave the Tiercel a clutch and he is still sitting on them!!

My tiercel Arnie gave semen from the age of two, he has sat eggs (chicken or dummies) Mainley because he gives semen into June for the Merlins. Hes reared from 2 years old. Perlins Peregrines and Gyr X Peregrines this year he has a couple for now peregrines with him, niether his own. He's worth his wait in gold to me.

Superb pictures. If I had bred enough chicks I would have tried him rearing but there you go! We all keep saying it - there's always next year...
I'm gonna have a short life at this rate, wishing/willing next spring to arrive!

I found in this game they is some great highs. But they is also many great disapointments. Sometimes hard to take. But I try to learn as I go along and keep on trying.
