A question from a friend who don't speak english.
My friend worry about his chick gos who don't eat well. He collect him in England few days ago. The chick seems well but he is really not interested by his food. He has 4 weeks old.
Is it normal?

They tend to have off days when they don,t eat because of the heat.I have experienced this before but it didn,t stop me worrying yesterday when she had dropped weight for the first time.
Regular checking of the weight is the order of the day.I weigh my chick which is now 21 days , every day.
Is the bird still ok in other ways,ie is it still rousing, preening etc.
Is there still food minced in a dish or is it being fed on carcasses now.
If a chick is being imprinted and has food 24/7 it never shows the appetite of chicks that are fed say 3 times a day by the parents when there are other siblings in the nest.
Has any castings been fed to this chick?
Every time I think this is the way it
should be done a hawk comes around that tells me its not.

The chick have food 24/7, he never gave him food with feather. I suggested my friend to take off him food in the evening to allow the chick to cast in the morning if he need. Win!!! The chick had still feather in his crop from his last food from the breeder (one week earlier).
Things seems going better now...
So it was castings?

Yes it was!!!
Thought it might be. As long as the hawk is feeding well now that’s all that counts!
