Hi, thought I'd show you some pics of my Polish Crested Blacks. They are totally oblivous of anything above them. From a few foot up I bet their heads bobbing around are like cue balls on a snooker table :-)

Lots of reports from my fellow chicken keepers about them being snatched by birds of prey. It has been suggested that you trim the feathers around their eyes they can see better and get out of danger. To be honest I don't think they stand a chance eyes covered or not.

Enjoy.

PS. That's my ugly mug too and excuse Mrs. Spaxmans bum

To be fair - Peril is new to falconry and as yet is unaware of the issues surrounding BoP and chickens.

Peril - as a falconer you try and ensure your hawks stay well away from chickens of any kind. This is because it is incredibly embarrasing to lose your hawk and find it sitting on a farmers prize cockerel. Plus it can be an expensive habit...not to mention precluding you from getting a further invite to fly at that farm again!

No - if I was having a laugh I would have put:

"Why did the chicken cross the road?" "To get to the other side"

Now I know, the latter is perhaps a more sensible joke for a Falconry forum.
Sorry, if I've caused any ruptions or heated debates.

Hacker - I'll keep reading and keep my mouth shut for a while.
