Wow, what does it take to satisfy you then, a bird that hunts polar bears or medium sized hippo's ? :yawinkle:

My first free flying bird was a parrot, first hawk a Female Harris, still have her and (touch wood) look forward to many happy seasons together.

To satisfy me , maybe wild trap a buzz and get it to hunt rabbit successfully for atleast 5 seasons.? Falconry certainly aint flying owls! the ferrug was malimprint would attack people and HH to hunt crows as pest deterrence

My first BOP was a lanneret. Cracking little tiercel to which will hopefully be introduced to hunting this coming season. Got my FHH 1month after my lanneret to which a superb first season followed with her. An followed was a male EEO. All to which satisfaction has been granted to myself.

The first bird I ever trained was a rehab female kestrel called Lear.

I trained her then hacked her back to the wild - and taught me the true highs and lows of falconry, from the first moment your hawk flies free, to how hard it is when they dont come back.

A female Redtail, she was stolen, so no. Her replacement gave me a passion that changed my life though. (A female Harris Hawks BTW).

Did you search for it using the search facilities at the top of the screen? If so, it shows all the words you searched for in red

Luckily she was a passage bird, so she was pretty quiet:) I lived in an apartment at the time (that's why I got a kestrel as my first bird) so that was a good thing. Never had any problems with messy eating, but then, I never fed her chicks:lol:

My first bird was a passage female common kestrel (~180 gm) that I bought in an open-air bird market in Saudi Arabia for $20. As a kid, I didn't have the money for a larger falcon, I didn't have the guts for a sparrowhawk (also common in the market), and I didn't have parental permission or space for a steppe eagle! I did rehab for a couple of lesser kestrels, but the common kestrel was my first hunting bird.

I didn't have a mentor, but one falconer I knew did loan me a bunch of books and hawk-chalks at the time. Much appreciated.

Her first catch was a desert gerbil. Okay, I lie. It was a beetle. And then came the desert gerbil. For a kid, watching a kestrel catch a desert gerbil was as good as a red-tail on a hare---let me tell ya.

I hacked her back to the wild at the end of the season. She met me in the same spot in the morning for about a week before she was gone. I was sad to see her go, but I was also happy to see her free once again!

Regards,
Mark
