Hi,get yourself an old CG125 or SR 125 both reliable and loads around so if you crash it ,thrash it and bash it you can get spares via a breakers. Once you know how to ride move to something a bit better. If you already have your CBT for mopeds go back to your trainer and ask him to give you an hour on clutch control, engine braking etc: should be happy to do it for you.
Don't forget leathers at 30MPH not a mark,30 MPH gravel rash very nasty, imagine it at 60, sod the posing ,cover up!!!!8-)
Good luck Brian (former M/cycle instructor):)
PS stay off the shiny stuff...................:!:

PMSL you'd be surprised how many do that mate, especially car drivers, going for a bike licence,LOL, sit behind them and watch them go slowly side ways then .....WTF.......crash lol:oops:
brian
I did that on my CBT and got stuck under the bike!! The instructor had to lift it off me, even though he could hardly do so from laughing
I would also recommend an SR125, not the prettiest of bikes, but will do the business for a couple of years - the price range varies in relation to the age of the bike - but you will get your money back when you come to sell it (providing you have taken good care of it!!)

bb is she a two or four stroke ? i would go four a dt or some thing simular as you will learn a lot more by going of road as well .all the bike skills are learned and if you have a off its not so bad as on tarmac.honest thats how i learnt and been on bikes over 30 years ,gsx1000.r1s,etc

I wanted an R1 but could only afford an R6. Then woke up one morning and didn't have that anymore either.
The one I always regret selling was my '85 NS400. One of the biggest errors!

why dont u go for your provisional car driving licence as u cant really transport a bird on a bike unless it sits on the handle bars in a little baskit or u build a lttle trailer lol:supz:

Just for reference, when a car manufacturer is designing a new car they spend thousands crashing them into each other to see how the crumple zones they have designed into the structure of the vehicle performs on impact.
The intention behind this is that hopefully the car's design might save someone's life in an accident.
Funny thing is motor cycle manuafacturers dont bother to spend anything on crash tests. Wanna know why??
BECAUSE YOUR BODY WILL BE THE CRUMPLE ZONES ON IMPACT.
I dont ride motorbikes because it took 19 peoples blood to keep me alive the last time I was badly hurt.
If you ask me it would be a poor way to repay those people who's blood saved my life if I killed myself on a bike.

I would say a car would be the best thing to get like m8, after all when you do get a girl to go out with you, watch her face when u hand her a helmet and tell her to hold on lol
Good luck though pal hope your quote aint to high!

Hey slow down a bit guys or you may scare him off bikes altogether,i've been riding on the road for 33 years, you could still have a 250 when i was 16, and have NEVER ended up in hospital ! The closest I came to a serious injury was when a Police car ,on blues and 2's came round a bend on my side and i had to bin it.(He denied all knowledge despite 2 witnesses.). Do what i used to tell my trainees treat all other road users as total idiots, and expect the unexpected.

treat all road users as idiots is about the best advise anyone can give to any two wheel users ,and watch road surface

first bike, since the age of .....well since i can rember ive always loved bikes from motocross to road bikes i have ridden at 17 i road an R1 very ilegal:oops: shakeing when a go off and a was only doing about 35 MPH,
, the best one to get by far is a gilera runner SP 125 (2stroke) 0-60 in 5.1 sec's ( faster 0-60 that most sports cars) and top speed of 85-90 its the only learner legal 125 to come off a production line with the leagal BHP, kicks out 12 poneys at the rear where most other bikes dont,
as for who ever said the DT is the one i beg to differ, yes its mint if you wanna go off road but mostley you are on the road a need the power,
as for people knocking bikes theres only one thing to rember really, THE BIKE WILL ONLY GO AS FAST AS YOU WANT IT TO GO,

the day i passed my driving test my old man told me
"you have your licence, now remember this. If you treat everyone else on the road as an idiot, you wont go far wrong"
best piece of advice i ever recieved.
This applies moreso to bike riders. womens arrses are nice to look at but you cant get away with it on a bike, you need to be aware of the road conditions at all times.
at 17 yr old, iff you pass your test (on a 125) you can ride a bike up to 33BHP so the rs250 fits in here nicely.
parts are expensive and difficult to source for this bike. i'd go for a nice 400cc 4 stroke but hey! the choice is yours!

getting told alot that other people on the road are idots guess it must be true ya never notice when ur a passenger  only getting the rs250 because its my uncles and its free (her come the yorkshireman jokes) was pillion on it last night and lets say it fast of the mark and sticks to the road like glue:supz:

dont get the bike till you have your licence. cos you will ride it. then when you get caught, the law will do you. then you wont even get a quote for insurance.
leave it where it is under the blanket.. pass your test first mate, its for the best i promise ;-)

Hmmm, first bike, mine was an old RD250, the realy old air cooled ones before the LC versions etc, but I'd say it depends what you're gonna use it for?
If for mainly messing about having fun on and as a passtime then get a nice two stroke screamer, if its gonna be as daily transport then like somene else suggested get something like a CG125, for some other 4 stroke.
As others have pointed out you can only ride up to a 125 at 17 without passing your test, not sure how the new laws all work now but you can take a test that allows you to ride anything, which requires doing the test on a bike with 33bhp or something, or youre restricted for X amount of time to up to 33 bhp, something along those lines anyway.
If you do decide to get a two stroke then be prepared to get the spanners out :)

its only 12 bhp you can ride at 17+ with L'plates with only a CBT not 33BHP, thats after you have passed your test!!!!!!
Newton Newguy
28-06-2006, 09:07 PM
If you pass your Pursuit test on a 125cc you are limited to 33Bhp until the age of 21,unless you take an intermediary test after having held a Full category for 3 years ( so if you pass at 18 you WILL be 21 any way !!!!!!)
Stupid bit of legislation that i think . Maybe 12 months instead would be better or staged increase, after a year up to 45 Bhp and a further year unlimited.
