Hi,get yourself an old CG125 or SR 125 both reliable and loads around so if you crash it ,thrash it and bash it you can get spares via a breakers. Once you know how to ride move to something a bit better. If you already have your CBT for mopeds go back to your trainer and ask him to give you an hour on clutch control, engine braking etc: should be happy to do it for you.
Don't forget leathers at 30MPH not a mark,30 MPH gravel rash very nasty, imagine it at 60, sod the posing ,cover up!!!!8-)
Good luck Brian (former M/cycle instructor):)
PS stay off the shiny stuff...................:!:

Good god! I'm not sure you would be safe even with a skateboard! 6 months 27 points!
Well my favourite saying was if you never crashed you've never tried!
You have definately tried!

hey, i went to beauleigh (bewley) at the weekend, there were loads of old RD's about the place I saw a 50cc, a refurbished 125, and the 350.
also saw an old 1960's racing moped, genuine 49cc that did 90 mph
FFS how the hell do you get 90 out of a moped without pushing it off a cliff?

Was it Mike "the bike" Hailwood who had a 50cc V4 Honda going around the Island in the mid to late 60's doing some phenominal speeds, think he was touching 90 - 95, bore and stroke must have been tiny, won loads of stuff then gave up and went on to cars for a while.
Returned to bike racing about 73 riding for Ducati and after years of non competitive riding he won either the MGP or TT,Quite a guy.:)
Unfortunately died in 1981 aged 41,son of a millionaire and had it all on a plate but still couldn't knock him for his skill. Never heard of him? search Google loads of pic's ,and a dedicated history site around , he used to ride one of those old dustbin fairing bikes in the 50's ( before MY time even) I think it was an MV

im actually amazed that no-one has started to build a newer looking machine with the same old engine and tried to flog it!
imagine a cagiva mito 50cc with a little 90mph screamer fitted... i bet it would get a few handsome bids on eBay!

Thought I was going to lose my licence once when I was pulled for doing 156mph on the motorway. I slowed considerably which unfortunately allowed the police to catch up with me and, and the fact I had might of looked good if it weren't for the other fact that I was pulling high velocity wheely when they belted up behind me with the blues and twos on! Scared the begeebies out of me....I could of fallen off! Damn irresponsible! Video was good though!
Oops, I was given a verbal ticking off and a bit of a smile! Still can't believe it really.

When i was serving in Germany a mate of mine T boned a Taxi (taxi's fault obviously) on a z9 he slid up the tank got his "main member" stuck under the bars as he went over OTT, woke up in a German Krankenhaus ( Hospital to u and me) with half of his and half a German guys !!!!!
Not a bad luck story when you consider he reckons he gained about 3" and fame (infamy maybe!) with the NAAFI girls who often insisted they see it which led to many "relationships" (usually just the one night ) plus enough compo to buy a Porsche and a deposit on a house.
I bought the z9 off him complete with impression in the tank.(ouch!!!!)
Bought a 2nd hand front end and rode it for 3 years ,brilliant bike, bit heavy though.:)

Well See If I can restart this thread
I started with a Fizzy R reg unrestricted Had some great adventures on it even managed to write of an algro estate (I still balme the Alegros square stering wheel)
I this the next was a Yammy DT 100 .. anyway tried to Jump a car with that ... well I managed to get the wheel as far as the wind screen any way
Then ah I bought a Yammy RD 200 ( bright Orange ) I went to give it a test run on a local straight (pont robert) got to about 85 and the blooming chain came off and locked the back wheel up
Had a brief stay at Gobowen "Bone" hospital after that crash .. but was sent home after organising a wheel chair grand prix ... They put all the bikers together on the same ward ... mistake I think cos the winner of the race tried to pull a wheelie in his chair and fell backwards and broke his arm !
Into my possesion then came a CD 200 benly (not for long)
I think a Suziki Kettle then .. then started to come accross some brit stuff managed to get a fair collection together
But sold most now ive posted a couple of pics
been meaning to get a triumph america for a while now I think it will suit my 6'4" frame
