Hi Colin............It is always fairly cool in the Hack Pen but most of these birds will be exported to the Middle East so they are allowed to sit in the sun here to gradually get used to the heat. There are always shaded areas that are cooler but we find that it is usually the Gyr Falcons that tend to be in the shade, the others just take a bath and sunbath

If I could have one I would. I'm just teasing myself Terry.

I asked the question as I was interested to know how many you breed over the quota that you must have to forfill the orders that are placed. If that makes sence?

Terry might sound a daft question ...but how come all the birds get along together in the hack pen?...

Adam

Hi Adam...........We put the chicks in there just before they are fully Hard Penned and they appear to get on OK. Remember these birds are at fat weight so they do not need to fight for food as there is always plenty available to them. The system works well for us as the birds become fit and build muscles at top weight so there is no stress, we do get the odd squabble but it is only minor and to date (touch wood) we have never had a fatality in the hack system.

Fascinating Falcons Terry! Is demand still outweighing supply seasonally!Would you say longwinging is getting more or less popular?England only!

Hi Dean I think it would be fair to say we never have enough quality Falcons to meet the demand and this year is no exception, I do however always like to let UK Customers have first pick but most of them come at Sales Weekend and by then the Arabs have been in and picked what they want.
I have found over the last 5 years that Longwingers (True Falconers) seem to be growing in the UK and I do like to supply Falcons to top Falconers, like yourself, who are able to access our birds and give us feed back so that we can correct any faults that may appear, we do have some Arab falconers who keep us up to speed on how our Falcons perform in the Middle East but most of the Falcons are sold to customers who never say anything because they think that if they tell you how good your Falcon was that you will put the price up when they try to order from the same Bloodlines again. I have a little clique of Falconers who meet each week in the desert and they have a compertion like a mini Sky Trial flying their Falcons at released Pigeons they are marked on speed style etc etc one of my Gyr x Pere Tiercels was so good that I had sold it here for £750 and the owner sold it for £20,000.00 now he wants 2 from the same breeding. I wonder why

Dean............I am intending to breed some Black Gyr x Peregrines next year as we will have more Imprint Peregrines laying then, unfortunatley this year for some reason they did not work out for us and a number of my Female Peregrines laid too late to Inseminate or did not lay at all, what a year. We had a lot of infertility early part of the season so things were a bit upside down for us but what we lack in numbers I am sure you will agree we made up for in quality. I will post some pic's of our white Gyrs (Alaskan Bloodlines) as soon as they are hard Penned they are looking great with nice white tails

Salman
The White bird is either a 5/8 or 3/4 Gyr x Saker
Black Birds are either Black Jerkins or 3/4 Gyr x Saker
I am pleased with the way they have come out but I still see room for Improvement but I like perfection and that will be 3 or 4 years down the line, it just takes so long for Gyrs to mature especially the Females
