Moses,
Treat your hawk like your kids - you wouldn't dose them with lotions and potions if they showed no signs of illness would you ?

Too many people seem to stick this and that down their hawks throat without any signs of illness - I'd have the hawks mutes tested if I thought they was something wrong with it - AND then apply the correct wormer / medication as recomended by the vet. A mute sample only costs a few quid.

I think this is sound advice !! Look for signs BOP are very good at hiding any problems with them but if you notice anything out of character just monitor and if really concerned take to a Good Specialist vet!

jim, after a few months having rolf i started to notice little cuts in his feathers, similar to fret marks, i was thinking it was done to moths, as ive alot of feathers and things for fly tying, im im constantly binnign stuff due to the damage they do. I sprayed him once, but now i just spray the avairy walls once a fortnight,

Please don;t worm without checking faeces first.

Why can;t panacur be given in the crop? For accurate dosing some people advocate actually crop tubing it???

before you worm ya hawk id recomemd you get the mutes tested first just to see wot they have if any.i killed my best lanner by worming wen it did not have worms .....be ker full wot you use panacure is good but wich one you must check first lots of differant kinds dont use just any one that some one gives you. ker for your hawks and get the mute tested first it only takes a day bi post and a phone call for the results.

mites i only use light spray of frountline under each wing and a little down the back.

cheers all

Moses I have been looking at your posts over the last few days with interest. I note you wont tell us waht bop you have but it sounds suspiciously like an acipiter? anyway regarding the above and stocking all drugs etc , icncase something goes wron, it is quite understandable but unnneccessary and and very expensive too ( as of course drugs go out of date ( and chance are most will be before you need them)! HTH and makes sense

not every one can crop tube so if you are worming a b.o.p. ie syrup or tablet the you do not want it sitting in the crop so like i said feed it in a d.o.c head when the bird is hungry.........remeber i am a falconer not a vet just giving my experience ,ssssssss that i have had .

they say you only lern from your mistakes.:-| :-| :-|

personally i would be very carfull when doing any thing you can get a vet to do after all it,s only money lots of it but it,s only money

Just don't understand why you specify it shouldn't sit in the crop? Where does the chick head go after being eaten?? Was just wondering if you had heard of some special reason why panacur is toxic to the crop or something??

Never use f10 barrier cream and wouldn't know what it is meant to be used for? as for antimite if you do get anything , get frontline from the vet I once had a kestrel that had mites and woul have done better trying to kill the mites with the can rather than its contents lol every other day the damn things were back. I use Frontline, I think the reccommend dosage is three 'pumps' per kg?

A lad on the old UKGoshawkers list lost a young female last year due to parasites?

My bird seem to have a few mites on her last year so used johnsond anti mite whilst she was on fist and manning her just dabbed my finger in it and when saw on just put it on the feathers with my finger and the little ******s just came up and died luckiy only had to do it a couple of times and now mite free. Also contacted the breeder just to let him know that his breeding birds may have some.
