Do any of you folks have a falconry supply shop. I would like to get a job making equipment. I'm am a leatherworker and was wondering if I could get a job. I haven't made many hoods yet, but could do a few samples if you wanted. They don't look hard compared to some things. I just finished a carved leather gun holster and am quite happy if I may say so my self. Nice oak pattern and stuff...
Send me an email at crazybirdartist@yahoo.com if you may have an opening.

Ummm...hate to break it to you, but your chances are very, very, VERY slim to find such a job. Not impossible, but extremely unlikely. The majority of US falconer's make most of their own leather equipment, ie jesses, anklets, bewits-very simple stuff. Hoods are different-most folks do buy them-but they take a great deal of skill to make. Not so much skill in leatherworking, but skill in getting the fit right to the particular bird. I've made a few hoods, but I wouldn't put them on a bird for very long. There's a fair number of people that make hoods in the US-most make and sell their stuff themselves. I suppose there may be a glovemaker out there that would "hire out" making gloves, but I've never heard of anyone advertising for someone. Your best bet would be to try contacting Doug Pineo or Brad Woods. They would be able to give you some good info on this kinda thing. You can contact Brad through www.northwoodsfalconry.com and Doug through http://www.pineofalconry.com/
Good luck:)
