The CRV is basically a badged and bodied Freelander with different body shell. Parts are more expensive as well.

Murph,
I have used a CRV for work for the last 6 years. They are fine off road as long as you have the 50/50 tyres on it. Most people who complain about their off road capability try to use standard road tyres, it just does not work as it would not on any 4x4

Very good point the only part of your car in contact with the ground is your tyres so as long as you got grip you will keep moving. Go for some BFG all terrains cnt beat them:)

you said it!

going back the freelander issue, its been covered more than once on here. if your gonna get one, stay well away from the petrol varients. K series engines fail with surprising regularity..

I would love to know what people call " off road " driving.
To most it is a muddy car park or field that any dual pupose 4x4 can accomodate, more down to the lack of skills of the drivers than the car.
I have seen these cars driven to places that most people would not believe possible with just normal AT tyres.
I remember going to the Val De Sare 4x4 Tote Terrain show many years and watching what some of the factory drivers manage to get out of their 4x4`s.
Most of you boy`s need to buy a good off road driving manual:lol:

Where did you get this info ????????

Being a technician for honda I can tell you that a CRV is nothing at all like a Freelander and the parts are about the same price the only differance is you dont need to replace nearly as many on a CRV as you will on a Landrover.

Murph when you have it serviced make sure they change the oil in the rear diff.

if you have enough pennies you should take a look at an xtrail, i hope i can make it for one next time but to be honest if you can drive off road you should see where i have had my zafira. not had it stuck once but if its been realy wet i use the old maveric, but my mates had his xtrail for a while now and it realy impressed me especialy when we did it twice to scotland and averaged 43 to the gallon both times, my old maveric does it at 30 to the gallon and the zafira only does 46, so if i can it will be an xtrail next time.:supz:

we all know that land rover make the best off road vehicles, but what makes us want an off roader, i have a honda civic boy racer, put the seats down shove the gear and dog in and away we go, i've never been stuck in mud and i go to some quite unimaginable places in it, the guy's way up north may need 4wheel drive in winter, but by and large we dont need em, save you're money and buy another avery, bird ,ferret, dog, you'll get much more enjoyment.

Couldn't do without my old defender at this time of year lugging water (150litres every third day to pheasant pens feed, moving l****n traps etc. But agree with you re. Hawking. If i'm going further than 10miles I take the mrs passat!

I had a CRV and loved it. The only reason I got rid of it was due to the distance I have to commute to work. I would get another again
