Hi All
An exclusive presentation on the IFF.....
http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/images/new-sml.gifTHE SULTAN HOODhttp://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/images/new-sml.gif
http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/images/Sultan/SultanBack1.jpg
To be revealed shortly.......
This hood has been in development for a time but is now at a stage that I beleive is ready.
The hood is not blocked but shaped through the cut and sewing of the leather and will provide a gape fit like that of the Slijper hood. The hoods characteristics are the same as the popular Slijper hood in starting out as a soft hood .... but will mould to the falcons shape and harden over a short period of time for maximum comfort. This hood fully closes around the falcons head and leaves a generous space for the eye. The look of the hood is similar to the popular "Khan" but is totally different in pattern and build.... I look forward to showing you the new hood fitted and in close up :D
The "Sultan" will be available in all sizes for Longwings and will also be available for most Hawks after fitting trials.

This fit is straight "from the bench"..... no adjustment needed. Click HERE (http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/Sultan.htm) for more detail......
Sizing.... for example, if your Tiercel takes a 46mm Slijper.... then he will take a 45mm Sultan.

Griff, stunning new hood, a lot more room all around, especially over the top of the head not just across the eye. My rollins keeps grabbing feathers right on top of the perlins head, drives me nuts. What's the weight difference, percentage wise, between this hood and the Slijper.
Best Regards,
Jeff

Hi Jeff
The weight difference comparison is fractional.... for example.... my Tiercels Slijper hood (46mm) weighs 10g and his new Sultan Hood weighs in at 12g... as you can see from my pics.... the Sultan just perches on top and behind of the cere and the amount of room for the eye is noticeable... when I put it on him this morning for the first time it was an instant foot up.... that tells me everything :D
Apologies for the grubby state of my Tiercels beak....just didnt give him a chance to have a wash before trying the new hood ..lol

Hey Griff,
Like the new style. What is the difference between Ken's "Khan" hood and your "Sultan" hood? They look very similar. Your hood looks like there is a little height right above the top of the beak opening. Is that just part of your design?

Hi Scott
Similar style.... but different in every respect :D My "SULTAN" pattern is based on the Slijper Hood and is not blocked. I have made it to give more room around the eye and also to get the gape fit of a Slijper hood. If you look closley at Kens hoods on his website and then take another look at my hood you will see a noticeable difference in the pattern and fit.
The height at the top of the cere is part of the design as that gives a "bridge" across the top of the hood to add strength to the front and as a by product gives more air space within. There is a definate airflow between the two eye spaces across the top of the head.... and I will be experimenting putting in breather holes in order to get fresh air into the spaces. Better illustrated in the pics below (on my fathers old "copy" Glasier block).

I am even toying with the idea of "making" a new type of block especially for this pattern.... not a conventional type of block but something different.... :)

 Well its on the way today.... I have made a 53mm as your white falcon took a 54mm Slijper... so its hopefully going to be spot on.. BUT saying that the 48 Sultan I made for Pete's black falcon was too small for her.... and she took a 49mm Slijper.... so I am making him a 50 & 49 Sultan to "bracket" the fit.
I am really looking forward to some pics of your white falcon with this hood on (if we get the right size straight away).

Hi All
Here is the new Sultan Eagle Hood.... its still in testing before being sold. There will be a couple of modifications before I will sell them ... a new top knot design will be done as the current one will be painfull on a cold day when the Eagle shakes his head  But as a "first time" hood pattern ......its fitted perfectly.

Hi all
Here is a size 73 Test version (as above) on a Male Marshal Eagle 8lb ....this test hood gives an indication of where the pattern needs to be adjusted. The Marshal has a very broad head but an almost "Accipiter" narrow gape ..... a new adjusted pattern is being completed to provide "best" fit :D
