Ive read the thread on tail bell mounts but it all seems to be geared at larger Hawks, using cable ties and plectrums etc.....
Which is the best way to mount a mini tail bell on a Spar......
The transmitter is leg mounted.Im picking the bell up today.
Advice appreciated.

use a mini plectrum and as per the larger hawks...or a few suppliers do purpose made mini plastic plectrum type mounts which have the ability to take a 'clip'. this would still be useful even if you leg mount your telemetry as you could use it to clip a tail sheath....think faconry fabrications do them.
If you dont like plastic the a thin but stiff leather 'plectrum could be used.

Another method you could try is a method used before tail mounts were more common place is by using a small piece of leather folded over one of the shaft feathers with a small hole punched through the piece of leather this can then be secured in position by a very small eyelet, then using one of those food bag tie wraps to hold the bell in place so if the bird did get caught up then the bell can discharge itself.
All The Best,

You can cut you own plectrum shape out of a plastic lid, loads around in the kitchen offa food tins!Mount the bell via two holes, with thin kangaroo strips, allow enough strip to provide movement of the two decks, apply a little glue and cable tie to clean shaven quill!!!!

Duhhhh.....Dont know what the hell I done wrong.Went to the music shop and bought two tiny jazz guitar plectrums and my daughter cast her up.Im no world authority on tail bell fiting, but Ive done about it about ten times and feel I knew what I was doing.Fixed it on in the normal manner, but just to be sure....we all do it......added a load more glue to make sure it woulnt come off. When she got back to the fist I noticed the train was misshapped and the centre decks were about 3/4 inch below the rest.No probs I thought..nothing a bath and a preen wont sort out......
This morning the train looked even worse....
Decided to cast her up again and had 20 mins with a snips and razor blade trying to get it off.Shes now got a leg bell on and her trains back in shape, albeit with two cable ties still glued onto the centre decks.
Do any guys on here use heavy duty cotton run through candlewax to attach bells to them or is that now not done..?

No the centres are fine and like I said, they went back normal after I cut the plectrum off.........I just somehow managed to get the whole lot lodged in the train forcing the centres below the rest rather than on top......This coupled with quick drying superglue has taught me a lesson.

hi alan a tail bell on a spar is a good idea as they use there tails a hell of a lot and would give you a advantage trying to locate her in cover.when i flew a f spar many years ago i used the small plec on the two center decks.but i was watching one of my videos the other day as you do when your waiting for the crops to come down.it was nick foxes basic training and if you watch that there is a good method of putting on a tail bell using a small strip of leather and some thread mounted on a single deck feather i dont know what sort of thread it is but if it was me i would use (dacron) or something similar they use it for making har rigs for carping.the method shown in the vid in my opinion would be very good for a spar hope this is of some help KEV.

I think the weight of the bell and risk of "catching on obsticles" would to be too great for a single feather - if mounting on the tail I'd used both the decks.

you may well be right jim with the single deck.i have allways used the two center deck method. i was just trying to give him an option being as he had not done to well with the two feather method all the best KEV.
