I have just de-boned a fox tail but whats the best thing too put down it too stop the rot

Alum or cooking salt, got a book if you want a shot.

I usually slit the tail skin the whole way, remove any fat or flesh, and rub a good quantity of Borax into the inside of the skin, then hang it up and let it dry. You could turn a small handle on a lathe and secure this unto the tail. The incision doesn't need stitched up as it closes when it dries and the hair covers the split. Borax is available in your local Chemist shop.
