As it has been asked - I have prepared some simple instructions on how I make a traditional bewit. No doubt others do it differently. They are welcome to post their methods here as well.
Cut a strip of leather approx 5 or 6 inches long and wide enough to fit through the bewit loop on your bell but not so wide that it is hard to pull through.

Punch a hole roughly in the centre of the strip:

Slide your bell onto the strip up to where the hole is. Loop the leather over the bewit loop and back through the hole:

Pull the leather tight up against the bell, you now have 2 leather straps, suede side in. Punch a second hole a short way along one of the 2 leather straps:

The blue pencil represents a hawks leg. Put the opposing strap through the hole you have made, and pull through to tighten:

Punch a further hole in the strap that you have pulled through, close up to the 'leg' as possible:

Pull the other strap through the hole and tighten, cut off any extra leather.

Personally I dont bother with the cutting of small slits in the leather to stop the bewit coming undone, and have never had a hawk pull a bewit off. But if you have a hawk which likes to 'fiddle' with its furniture that is probably a good idea.

just cut 2 small slits on either side of the final leather strap that goes through the final hole. You want to angle them slightly away from the leg.

Alternativly, a drop of 'Supaglue' where the leather intertwines.
