Hi All,
Picked up my Gyr x Prairie male to block him out yesterday morning, as I put him down, one of his primaries fell to the ground. I didn't take too much notice as he still has a couple on each wing to go.
On further inspection, it's one of this year's feathers, half down, no blood in the shaft, with a tear drop point at the end of the quil and rock hard. I looked at the wing to see if there was any blood staining, but nothing, not even the residue of the waxy tube the feather grows out of. No hunger traces apear on the feather.
I have never seen this before, he is an '05 bird and all other feathers have or are coming down well other than his tail, which seems to be moulting in a strange pattern.
Does anyone know why this primary may have dropped like this.
