For the first time in 20 yrs I had hawks claw driven through a double thickness buckskin martin jones glove into the ball of my thumb.
Had it happen on seams of other inferior gloves but never though the true double thickness part. Still atleast she has nice sharp tips!
Anyone else had this?

Yes but it was a 14 lb female goldie and no fault on the glovemaker.
It was a tad painfull I have to admit.;-)

not new....must be 10 yrs+ old but never used it much so in terms of wear I'd say the same as a 1yr old. It has been well looked after.
I tend to use it for training as its quality & thickness is better than my ben long glove which I normally use as its a better fit and thinner so more sensitive.

Excellent value for money if it's lasted 10 years.

Like I said in the previous post I havent used it to any extent.......hardly good value if you dont use it:rolleyes:
Still the quality is very good and I'd generally recommend them just wondering if anyone elses hawks have managed to get through theirs.....

Morag got through with her talons once. Painfull lessons i agree. New glove but Mo's talons were sharp I admit. Why did she grip the glove?

Yes, on several occasions I have had my friends FHH go through the glove - but she just hates me (the bird not my friend ;)). Once I had her on the fist to be cast - had to change to an eagle glove! - and another time she got tangled on a perch so had to give her a hand. Probably not the best times to get to know a bird - maybe thats why she hates me

During the initial hooding, my FRT would allow the hood to go on then ratchet down. Normally rocking your wrist would cause the bird to loosen for balance. She would bind even when inverted. She would eventually get thru. The pressure just kept increasing. My hand would throb, then become numb. Once the hood was removed it was alright. As the feeling returned, so did the pain.

can u test gloves for this type of thing? What do people think of using kevlar maybe in all gloves (doubles anyway) as safety. Just pondering....

I have started hooding her ...the hood was on she was settled and quite relaxed until my ferret 'chuckled' in a play fight.....result was her killing my glove in that pulsating pounding they do on quarry. The instant I struck the hood she released. I guess she thought she was on a rabbit! So not her fault.
Unusal that she got through a top quality glove.

Quite agree..... I've aways thought Martin Jones gloves to be decent quality, even if the colour/fit isnt to everyones taste. I'd say the same for the Ben long one though I've restiched the thumb area. Both are over 10 yrs old but the B L one looks it.

In some respects that's very true but alot has to be said for looking after the glove as well with regular treating.
