Nobody can give you an accurate diagnosis over the internet but I think you have taken him too low, this weight is certainly at the very lower end of the scale for a MRT.

What weight was he out of the aviary?

Mate....It does sound like you have gotten him to low and he ended with sourcrop.

Are you being mentored by anybody? This is something that should be looked at by a practicing falconer in person. It is hard to figure out what you are doing when we can't look at the bird in question.

Did the vet tell you that he had to be fed minced food forever or just until it recovers from sourcrop? What happens with sour crop is the bird gets so low that it cannot process food anymore and the stuff that has been eaten just stays in the crop and rots. Are you sure this is not what the vet has told you?

First off....it is very hard to read your posts mate. If you click on the "ABC" when you are typing a reply it will send you to "Ispell" which you can download and it will help you spellcheck....I use it all the time because I type like ****.

Three chicks is not too much unless your bird is too low. If they pulled out all those things from your birds crop he had too much in there and you have to figure out why he still had food in his crop. Did you notice that he had a crop when you fed him? Most birds will put thier crop over in a few hrs. When was the last time you fed him before the three chicks?

Mate....You need to get with a Falconer. You cannot feed to much in one sitting unless the bird is too low in weight.

What utter ****, if I were you mate get another vet as the one you went to hasn't got a clue about rapters. If we didn't feed while out flying we would have problems recalling and dont get me started on hunting.

Take the advice of others here as well, get yourself an experienced mentor local to you so he/she can have a look at the bird.

This hawk needs to be seen by someone experienced in flying hawks, 3 chicks shouldn't be a problem for any sized hawks and especially for a red tail.

Something is wrong with him, I suspect he's far to low.

I was flying MRT for two seasons and in my opinion it was too low, but as Mike said it's hard to tell over internet!

Have been over to see the bird today, and he has been too low, Frazer off for the weekend, so I'm sure he'll keep everyone posted when he comes back.
