Hawklad you have a reply to your PM.
I am not worried that you try to check me and my birds out on the Forum in fact it is good.
However having read through your posts I do not think you are ready yet for a bird. I do not supply birds to people who are not prepaired for their new charge. You do not have any equipment or indeed a weatherings and I can't see that you have been on a course, had any training or have got a mentor.
Do yourself a favour and join a good club like the BHA or BFC, I am not sure where you live so an indication of that will help us point you in the right direction, read some books and get out with some experienced Falconers. When you can prove to me you are worthy of one of my birds then talk to me about it.
Don't go off half cocked about this I am more than willing to help you become a Falconer but I can't justify selling you a bird just yet for the birds sake more than yours. We run courses here and would be happy to train both you and your father to a point where you are capable of careing for and training your new bird but as I said before we don't know where you are.
Sorry

Sorry I didn't read your profile and now see you are in Derbyshire, Please contact Blackbird or Mass by PM on this Forum and I am sure they will be able to help you with training and a few days out in the field or perhaps one of our other members would be willing to take you under their wing.
Please don't go and buy a bird before you know what you are doing or indeed if Falconry is for you and that you have the time available to carry on the Sport, you are 15 you have School and perhaps university to look forward to so getting a bird now might just turn into a big mistake.

yeh have to agree. Who will watch your bird when you go to school, that is assuming your dad does not work. You are very young and if you have every kept any bird even a budgie you will realise they need a lot of care and stimulation to thrive other wise they get bored and are wasted. Well with a BOP its double trouble. To be fair to you as ive said speaking from a relative beginners point of view when i got amber and had my mentor beside me i was fine and got on well but when he went away i panicked and thought hell what do i do with this bird. Which was stupid cos I knew damm well what to do but cos i was on my own i was frigtened even to pick her up and i think she knew cause she would be as difficult as possible. I definately think that if I had just bought a hawk she would be dead or we would be looking for a killer bird in Falkirk!! Doesnt bear thinking about.
I urge you to think about it carefully, I am not saying dont get a bird and I am not saying I am an expert whcih i am not listen to what kentish falconry is saying as going by your posts i dont think you have necessary knowledge and equipment to get a bird and care for it properly. Its a lot of money to lose if its not for you. :)

while you're still at school, i think you would probably cope if you get the bird going to a lamp and like me dont do much home work  especially in the first year or maybe two when you are extra keen, but it will be hard work when you are going out every night drinking with friends. and then there is uni to think about and being free to do what you want from 17/18 onwards is important. Its really hard to do all things you will want to do, when you have a hawk to look after. You cant just stay out all night and not worry how and when you will get home the next day. Im sure these things dont even enter your head now..but they will and you will want your freedom
Try and find someone who will take you out as much as you want, and have the fun and avoid all the commitment.(and cost) you will be happier for it and you can always get a hawk later in life.

this is good advice from everyone, i have had my bird ( fhh) for over a year now and i can tell you it it is a huge commitment, i have love bop since i was at primary school but i have waited many years untill i have been in a situation where i feel i have the time and patience to keep and train her.
i welcome anyone into this facinating sport but be aware of the time you need to have to do your bird justice:)

The sad thing is, people like this will pop up in a few weeks time, saying something along the lines of how they have been given this Harris Hawk by a mate (who has gone to prison, or died etc etc) and expect the forum to pick up the peices

That doesn't explain why you posted about yourself in the third person, ie giving yourself advice to go read up etc.
