Can any of our american members tell me what a biscuit is please? Im reading a lot of john grisham books at the moment and he keeps referring to biscuits-biscuits for breakfast,biscuits with butter etc
In england your cookies are our biscuits so what is your biscuits!?cheers

they are like scones, but the yanks have them with everything ,,,eg,, go into KFC and you will get chicken, gravy and biscuits , yuk

They are a soft bread made with flour, eggs, salt, milk and baking powder baked to a golden brown. They are wonderful with gravy or jams. Don't knock em till you have had homemade biscuits. :)

Grits are made from corn. You soak the corn in lye (which creates Hominy.) You then dry it out and ground it up. Next you boil it in water, add milk and butter. Essentially, it's a lot of work to create a not-so-good-tasting breakfast thingy. It came about in the deep South about the time of the Civil War, because soldiers could carry the dry grits forever. Made them mean, too. :yawinkle:

And don't you lads go knocking good southern American food- I tried Haggis....once....:confused: :confused: :confused:
