Dear All,
how long you keep you sakers hooded, i saw some falconers hood the birds all over the day except when feeding and / or hunting,
when you consider hoods to be over used ?
with regards

I surpose we in the west are lucky to have grass lawns to block/tether our hawks on and if they bated they would not do any damage to feathers etc.Unlike youre dry, dusty and stoney ground that would do untold damage to a falcons plumage and that kind of use of the hood is needed to prevent this, the same with the Kazakh's with their Berkut's.
I use the hood only when i need to-my gyrsaker hoods if i have to travel him, before flying whilst i weigh/put on telem etc etc and afer flying to walk bk to my house. Rest of the time hes out on the lawn and doesnt need hooding, hes happy enough to sit out and enjoy the weather/whatevers going on, if he bates, like Kazahk said, hes on grass so its not too much of a problem.

The hood as soon as the bird has to be quiet, to avoid he breaks feathers for example. Depends on the bird and the stage of the training, and weight.
