Met up today with my mate niel for a few hours hawking,we set off and soon found a nice covey of english not in the best of positions but as time was getting on and we had three birds to fly I dicided to fly them.
we backed off and i slipped the tiercel when he'd reached his pitch i started the walk in but before id got close enough to slip the dog the covey lifted and sped down hill, the tiercel folded and detonated one but to close to a low but dense hedge the tiercel headed back to me and remounted ready for the reflush,
when in position i slipped the dog and worked the hedgerow,my friend shouted its out as the tiercel was in full fold he disapeard behind the hedge i walked up and found him to my supprise on a woodcock ive always wanted a crack at these but the opportunity untill now has never arrose.it was a nice kill but not the best of setups as i didnt see the end of the stoop, still nice to put woodcock down in the quarry book.
ill put some photos up later.

well done for getting a wood cock. ive only seen two this year and caught the only one I saw last year. they are great lil birds tho and the breast was put in a stew with rabbit phessie etc, wasnt overly impressed wit hthe meat, but I bet if cooked a certain way it could have been alot better. it did however taste nice from what i can remember, but not exceptional!

My red letter day with the minor tiercel last year. Showed completely different style with the woodcock, seemed to excite him more than any partridge.

this one was tucked up in some rough next to the hedge, the others ive seen were out in corn stubble with rape growing thru.a few years back i regularly found them out in the open on stubble and could of quite easily flown them on speck but never had permission:(

It wasn't mine, a friend flew a hen pheasant, track it down with telemetry - found it on a woodcock
Tried and had plenty of good flights but flying over the pointer, I stood back to far on too many points that turned out to be woodcock.

Sorry if im boring you:roll: but its Tuff:supz: My mate paul came over today, we dicided to go and have a shot at some teal. weve been after them a few times at varios places but weve been unlucky this season.
were we go its a narrow outlet stream,so what we do is pincer the ducks from both sides so they brake out across a big rough field it doesnt always work, sometimes we pincer the wrong bit and they get up behind us and bail from the stoop then youve lost and as good as on your own just chasing down stream, but today it worked and we got our teal.

Steve could of done with with your perlin yesterday I went after the snipe again!had two cracking flights thought he'd got a foot to the second bird but somehow it carried on,Im feeling confident of putting one in the bag before the season ends.
we took another drake teal today wasnt expecting much as it was ****ing down with gales the flight didnt quite go to plan as he dissapeared for a start but then appeared over us at a nice pitch the rest is history.teal and snipe great quarry:supz:

I went in work but it was too cold to lay any bricks:roll: so home i went and collected the team and guest:D .the missus, arrived on my ground and found a small covey in a good place, jumped out and got the tiercel on the wing, what a lovely sight seeing him climb in the clear blue instead of grey sky,it all felt good, told the strife to jump out and just watch the tiercel he went right up perfect position and a good flush by the mutt near verticle and a nice bind all in view of the missus.I couldnt believe it had gone so well as i was fearing disaster, argument an a night in the shed lol. This is the last partridge set up ill fly this season, after feeding up etc we carried on round the ground to see whats about and all we found were greys in pairs.time to call it quits for this year me thinks.
