I would try out http://www.confused.com/
You type your details in once then they query loads of insurance companies.
I did it but used the results to negotiate my existing company renewal to an acceptable figure:
£240.00 for my ford maverick 2.4i petrol jeep.
Protected no claims, legal fees and courtesy car. They were quoting me £320 for the renewal till I emailed them the confused.com results list.
good luck,
Mark

Paddy, try YES car ins, I insured my Disco with them and the premium was £489.00 FC, as I have kept my 9 yrs NCB on the BMW. I recently added my wife to the policy as a learner and was expecting it to shoot up! but I was amazed when they told me it would go down  by adding her to it, it dropped to £397.00!!! How the **** do they work that out

Car ins goes up every year, so its only when you get full NCB to you start to notice a difference.

Another thing I tried once was to get a quote with no, NCB, when I got the premium, I then asked them to quote me with 70% NCB, which should have dropped the policy by 70%. however it dropped it by around 10%, they tried telling me they were giving me a big introductary discount!! Basically they charge what ever they want, and us mugs cough up.

The thing is every ins company claim they are the cheapest! I always tell them I have a few quotes already. then knock a few quid of your best quote and give them that, they usually quote you just under what you tell them. Providing you don't take the pi** :yawinkle:

But be warned, when you select the best quote and then follow the link to their website, they will ask for a few more details, which Guess What.... puts the price up

It doesn't usually pay to go direct to insurers either, as most brokers get a huge discount for selling lots of policies, most of them can offer the same policy for less than the company underwriting it, which is mad really. Apparently by doing this the underwriting company save the difference in admin costs.

Yeah same for me by adding the wife it reduce the premium by about £15.
Just didnt figure why that should be??
When the guy actually quoted the £240 fully comp + no claims protection, legal fees and courtesy car for the 2.4i petrol Ford maverick he said he paid more for his vauxhall Astra. I said yeah but Im an old b@stard and the maverick wont go as fast as his astra.
Goodluck with the insurance hunt!

Its because by adding the wife you give them the hope that she may drive it a little, therfore reducing the amount of time you would be driving.
With a woman at the wheel statistics prove a claim is less likley and in the event of a claim it will be more likley to be minor.

Now Im thinking would it be cost effective to have more than one wife and get an even bigger reduction???????

I was paying £300 tpft on my 2.1 406 TD. Went on money supermarket.com, tapped in my details, it searched through hundreds of ins companies and came up with £215 fc with More Than. I phoned them up to discuss the policy and got it down to £195 fc. Dead chuffed.
