Can you fly a kestrel in a wood, like you fly a harris in a wood? I mean: when you call, the kestrel will come on your hand? And can a kestrel follow you in a wood?

the answer is yes to all questions, flying through woodland enhances the speed of a kestrel as well.

As far as I know, longwings are by nature open country type of raptors. Therefore, they must be flown in open areas. But, who knows, if they were trained, they will be able to fly in wooded areas to.

Perhaps, u must ask any member here who has done it before.

Yeah, you can get a kestrel to follow in the woods! But if you do, it will soon be a coops dinner here in the states or probably a spars over there! LOL

mine does
one of the bad things is that when lure flying they sit down, and when you go on an open field they will sit down to witch is a litle anoying.
but accept for lure flying in the woods is great fun.

mine does whait long to come and than fly's a litle bit past me. i didn't have a catch yet but i feel its coming. in the winter is a good time to start following tru woods cause you can keep an eye on them. when there are leaves on the trees it sometimes happend i lost him but never longer than 15 minutes. the last to weeks he comes perfectly even if he doesn't know where i am he will follow the sound of the whistle.

mine is an imprint and screams when he sees my right hand:roll: . but when he sees a spar (happend twice) i could find him on my shoulder or at the other end of the forest. . just stimulate a bit when he is following by trowing a tit bit on the ground behind you.:-| but mine didn't need it.

greetzzzzz

hi talking about flying kestrels in woods my mate was telling me that he took a bloke out hunting on his land this bloke had a redtail when they got there the bloke turned around and said this is not the right place to fly a redtail they cant fly on land like this:confused: now this land is great loads of rabbits, pheasants and ducks one side wood and rest open.
And going back to kestrel i have flown kestrels in woods.

Surely a well trained kestrel would fly to the fist regardless of the terain! it all depends on what you want to do with it, I cant image a kestrel would follow on as such, but you never know:yawinkle:
