Yeah unfortunately **** Best has now retired and I have not so far used the portishead practice since although my birds are still registered there.

Do any of the Bristol guys on here know of a potential alternative?
Id appreciate some feedback via pm if you prefer.

Mark.

Youve left out Alistair Lawrie, in Falkirk and Cumbernauld.

Probably, if not the best Avian vetin Scotland.

Alistair Lawrie has two practises which he moves between.

Falkirk
FK1-5OY

01324 624361

Kennilworth Court
Cumbernauld
G67-1BT

He has a number of trained staff who are excellent in avian vet med.

He also has an excellent evt working with him in Micheal Orsi, sorry bout the spelling.

They are excellent, they let you watch, give advice and explaiun everything that has gone on and should happen in the future.

If hes good enough for the parrot and canat=ry associations to recomend, as well as Emma Ford, then theyve got to be special.

Would remove this particular vet from your list, would not recommend i have had dealings with Mr Jones in my opinion he is ****e....Told me to rest my bird after he had been bitten by a rat. Told me swelling would go down. Got 2nd opinion from Harcourt Brown he needed operation to remove abscess. Mr Jones was unaware abscess was in is Leg and he call himself avian vet.....

i think a lot of them call themselves avian vets as they deal with chickens and canaries. We just assume they know about bop's because that is all we are interested in and to us an avian vet is a bop vet. just a thought:rolleyes:

Hi Talon, good idea to post this list, but unfortunatley one of the vets listed do not deal with bops at all. They are the Manderville Veterinary Hospital
15 Manderville road,Northolt UB5 5HD.They do however give out the number
C.J.Hall Veterinary Surgeons in London, who I know are very good with bops.
Cheers mate.

I wonder who compiled that list ?

A good friend of mine (a vet who is listed on that linked page) who does treat birds, in fact he's treated mine but he freely admits he's not an avian vet or a specialist in birds of any kind. He's a standard common or garden vet.

I dn't mind if they are not a specialist as long as they are interested in bop and know when to liase with a specialist avain vet.

i only put that link of vets upas i thought it might help some one out ?
even if you call these vets they should at least be able to point you in the right directions of a avian (b.o.p) specialist, hopefully.

don't beat yourself up about it, it was a great idea and unless you telephone each one individually you won't know any different. I have called several in devon & cornwall and have posted the results. perhaps someone in each area could do the same and we may get an up to date list.

Update on avian vets devon/cornwall
I have now spoken to a vet at Okeford veterinary centre, devon. He is called Phillip Davies. He says he is an avian vet but not a specialist (see sprout's note on this).
He refers to specialist avian vets :- i.e. neil forbes etc, if it is needed ( not a simple condition or injury). He is an extremely pleasant vet to talk to and sounds as though he could well be a good first port of call if you live closer to him than you do to Neil Forbes.
This is the first positive response I have obtained in my marathon telephone session.

No offense intended mate.

It is a useful link.

I was just pointing they may not all necessarily be avian vets like the link implies.
