Today I was out to fly my birds. Well my female lanners turn. I fly the lanners out of hood after sealed pigeons to prepare them for pest controlling. Well I slipped her after the pigeon what gained sum height. She began to chase and when they are high up and the falcon almost caught the pigeon a wild female pere stooped on my lanner and hit her. My falcon falled down and I thought she was dead. I run after my bird and on half way I heard the bells ringing, she come back to me and I offered the lure. I picked up her and noticed that her head bleeding and her right nostril. She dont eat too much. After an hour around her right eye theres sum liquid under the skin and she keep her eye closed. After 2 hours she eat a small amount and I noticed that her right eye is blinded, than I went to the vet and her eye began to work again. Tomorrow I will give antibiotics and vitamines for her and till recovery she will be on holiday, so I dont fly her.

Anyone have similar attack???

Dan.

Hi Dan, sorry to hear that; was the Pere going for your bird or the pigeon????

I put up a video clip of my Saker being attacked/stooped at by a wild tiercel but today we were joined by 2, whilst out flying.

there was no contact but 1 bird and Zarbu did have a dog fight for a little while. Then she came back and sat at my feet:goodman:

Hope yours recovers alright.:supz:

Yes when i flew my first buzzard a kestral stooped at her and beat her right out of the tree she was sat in.
It suprised me how hard that little ****** hit the buzzard, she was ok though i wasn't sure who was most suprised, me or the buzzard lol:lol:

Invade someones terriorty,, prepar to get twated!! bit like someone breaking into your house,, and nicking the food out your fridge!!! Its just another risk falconers have to contend with, your peregrine however should if fit, give more of a run for his money,, mine does!

sorry to here about your bird mate
i was working at a falconry centre once and we were doing a flying display with a male perlin and a wild tiercel came from nowhere and snatched it out of the sky fortunatly he came down in a feild close by and we ran over the tiercel let him go and although shaken he was fine but the wild peres give my falcons some stick on site most days but they've never hit them just dog fights
colin:rolleyes:

I`v had similar situation`s on the farm which I fly on there is a local pair of Peregrines and quite often come in and try to chase of the falcon but they have never made contact with each other, I have seen trained falcons take Kestrals, Spars and Owls and on one occasions a buzzard but never vice versa.
Hope you bird is ok.

I've got to say that I have the opposite problem with my Tiercel Gyr x Peregrine! He absolutely loves to take on wild Peregrines (Falcons and Tiercels) and he always flies them like he means business. It is sometimes a pain because he often won't get on with hunting etc. until he is certain that he has cleared them off.

Cheers

Hope she recovers fully. Sounds like a head shot, the fluid under the skin is oedema/bruising developing. The temporary blindness could be due to bruising/haematoma formation in the pecten - give her strict rest without stress/chance of further trauma for a week, if the haematoma ruptures she will be permanently blind, give it time to settle. Might be worth using anti-inflammatory drugs and probably covering with antibiotics.

Thanks guys, well she looks better know and she also feels better coz she bite me  Her eye also working again! I flown these lanners near a peregrine pairs nest and there were no probs and now at my new flying ground it happens... 3 days ago the lanneret take a common buzzard, I hope these things wont happen usually! oh and the pigeon probably caught by the pere, but at that time I just keep my eyes on my falling lanner.

Territorial fights with local wild raptors is not unusual. I've had my birds attacked. My male Harris' was knocked out of a tree by a wild immature redtail. I've seen wild prairies and peregrines (and redtails) go after our birds being flown. Owls in the evening are always a threat. Of course, the threat of eagles pillaging and killing our birds out west. My friend had his peregrine carried off by a maurding eagle. He found the leg attached to the transmitter the next day. Heart breaking, but a risk we all take. Basically, one does not fly after 10:00 a.m in eagle territory. The rule is: when you put your bird out there, you have just entered the food chain.

Hope your bird recovers fully.

Hi dude , this year i had 2 tiercels out at hack, a peregrine, and a gyr, barbary, they were both imprints and to begin with stayed with ,them [tame hack] after a few weeks started leaving them out longer , they were out for 3 months, however the hybred , was taken from the hacksite by a adult wild peregrine , killed and eaten , got the bird back she had taken it about 3 miles on top of a building were they are trying to breed , its unfortunate and a great loss, i have had 3 wild peregrines join my tiercels at hack but its the hybrids that are at risk , this is the small ones , the peregrines are recognised and accepted up to a point but foreign birds or smaller hybreds are in my experience are at risk more so when they have young that have recently left the nest , i wont hack hybreds localy again only peregrines, cheers, mark.

Sorry to hear that Mark! :( on the otherhand its very interesting that hybreds are at a greater risk.

My peregrine was out of action for most of last season after a fight with the local bird. She was hit in the eye and the membrain was cut in two and insted of flashing over the eye it came down as two lumps of flesh. I'm not quite sure how but it did heal and she is back to her normal self again. Good luck with your bird.

I had the situation this year where a wild buzzard slammed in to the back of my gyr/pere male on a gull. The buzzard had the falcon pinned down by the back of the wing and the head. When I separated them, the buzzard charged in for another go.Luckily when I said "shoo" the buzzard left the scene.
The falcon ended up with stitches on the wing and it was touch and go whether he had been blinded in one eye,but luckily he wasn,t.
