Hi out with louie again today , put up over farm buildings , began to flush starlings for him from the cattle yard , stooped at a single put it back in the coverd yard it was craping itself , went out the side door in the end one relieved starling , started flushing more out , tiercel chasing like mad , kept switching birds , chased one over the back of the farm , gone for a few minutes , thought he had it , then heard hes bell coming back over higher ,this time hes getting the message, ran around the side of the buildings 5 or 6 collared doves in a small tree next to the grain store flushed , but a bit wide came down but doves had made thicker cover , hes learning not to stoop if birds are close to thick cover if they break hes after them , smart tiercel , been on the wing 20 mins which seems along time when your running around flushing by your self, improving all the time , going to change venues tomorrow , run the dogs lots of larks , small birds in the field i flew the gyr, prairie, we will see what tomorrow brings , cheers , mark.

Hi out with louie again today , different venue, big open stubble field , decided to run the dogs try to get him over a point /skylark , put him up and started climbing , reaching a good pitch , maybe 200 which for a small tiercel at small stuff is aceptable , bit waywood to begin with but started bumping larks and that brought him over , lots flushing left and right , some real good stoops , dog came on point , old one nice and steady, waved him over a bit wide, but flushed anyway , pay attention, good stoop , chased skylark up for a while , then ran to a small group of bushes at the edge of the field , must have been 20 small birds sat looking out , brought him over nice and tight this time , flushed right over and a small group flushed, real good stoop , just missed , birds coming back in were they started , nobody wanted to leave , flushed 3 times each time nealy conecting , last flush small group left and climbed really went for it , tiercel stooped and chased them high up , went out of sight over next hill , came back high , gave him the lure , flew well today but a kill would do him good , would help his confidance as sometimes he can switch off , but when he is paying attention its great , cheers mark.

Hi , out with little louie again today, trimmed his weight a tad just over the pound, been wandering a bit so wanted to see how he goes, put him up over the farm buildings not so many starlings today but lots of collared doves, he roused once then went good sighn as hes been rousing 2 or 3 times before going looks like he meens buisness today , got a good pitch , stooped at doves on farm buildings [roof] before i could get in position, climbed and stooped again scattering the doves in all directions , looks like the weight reduction was a good move, ran into the cattle yard , flushed out more doves and about 5 feral pigeons, ran out the other side to see him clip a feral pigeon, it roared away with him in hot pursuit , lost site of him gone for a couple of minutes then heard his bell coming back higher this time , looking good , flushed about 7 doves from trees behind the cattle sheds and he stooped into them just missing one by a fag paper , a definate improvement , its a better weight , he sometimes goes of doing his own thing but today seems really tuned in, brought him over me and gave him the lure , been on the wing about 25 mins, although hes only killed 2 partridges he is showing lots of potential , i have only been flying him a week and a half , as i took him on late for a friend that hasnt time to fly him , heres some pictures, cheers, mark.

hi mark
sounds like hes coming along nicely hopefully it wont be long before he kills his first starling or dove:lol:
watched a wild teircel take a starling on the tip today never seen anything like it he came over the tip flushed the starlings but stayed underneath them and pumped like mad straight at them pushing them up higher and higher until the starlings were about 300ft up then he broke off to the side and one starling headed for the ground and the teircel put in one excellent stoop and took it out clean as a whistle i reckon hes done that before knew exactly what he was doing anyway keep us posted all the best

I may have missed it in your posts, but what weight is he?

I would be impressed if a falcon of that size could take doves on a regular basis.

Tinto

Hi Tinto , he is around the pound , started him at 1,1 , but have trimmed him to nearer a pound , flew a tiercel prairie on same ground and its the only bird apart from a spar i have caught starlings with , what i mean is they can catch them , i dont expect to catch one every day that would be impossible , but the prairie tiercel/or its hybreds is ideal for the challenge , a imprint i flew about 5 seasons ago caught 5 in his first season , and he was killed on a fence in september , in his 1st year ,cheers , mark.
