actually I am also wondering whether people use just ordinary kites for falconry. And whether they are sufficient. See lots of kites on sale some specially for falconry. But they are in general either very big or very expensive or the both. In this threat there is one that is probably cheap and still suffices.

Any good experiences here with some regular kites and making the adjustments yourself?

The Dan Leigh kites fly at a high angle of attack so when you put it up you get the full benefit of your line and the bird is virtually above you. It makes it easier for the lure to slide down the line also

i have just started my five year old gyr saker to the kite. The kite is from of all places asda only cost £5 for a 7ft single line delta so i got 2 the line i use is 125 lb Dacron off ebay 300ft for £7 and i got the rutland fence winder off a dairy farmer for free. After 4 outings the bird is flying like never before .He now has worked out that the easiest way to go up is to find a thermal to help him lift .The kite is now set at around 250ft with the lure at 50ft bellow the kite which i made from crow wings . this setup has given me a taste for training this way without spending hundreds of pounds. At the moment i'm looking at dan leigh kites and a much longer spool of Dacron I am amazed how easy it has been to introduce this bird to the kite he has only previously been flown off the fist at gulls and crows
