Over the past few year I have been discussing hoods and artwork in and on hoods with John Moran. John was the first American hoodmaker to include beautiful paintings and other types of art on the inside.. I spoke to John at length on techniques etc and with John Moran's blessing and encouragement here is the first. It is for a hood collector/ ferruginous hawk enthusiast..
I will draw and paint your falcon, hawk or other raptor, dog or almost any scene in the eye panels on many of my styles of hoods..
A big thanks to John..

I actually think it is terrible waste of time this kind of paintings. It has no use for the BOP or the falconer, and it has no artistic value if inside of the hood. There are some hood makers who do make this kind of arts, but they at least are notioning it is better on the outside of the hood then. Inside is just not worthwhile for anything i guess. Maybe to keep someone bit busy?

BB, thanks. I look at it this way, I choose to have a picture of my bird, dog, rabbit etc in or on my hood. No particular reason, I just do,, YET, I want it to be a daily hood that I will use as well. Why do a painting on the outside of the hood where it will get damaged, scratched from trees , exposed to weather etc.
This way the art work is protected and if it is a well fittiing hood the painting will not face the everyday wear and tear that it would on the outside..

I admit that a painting whether on the outside or inside of the hood only makes the hood different, it does not serve any function but a reflection of the falconer who decides to use it. With that said why have a two colored Dutch Hood, or a lizard skin , or an ornate top knot, why dye the leather at all when a protective spray will provide the hood safety from rain etc..
We are all individuals,,

I was at a small retail store the other day looking at some of their Close-out leathers, when I came across this rather unusual piece.. I sat and wondered about how I could use it on a hood,, It is almost finished and I like the effect it gives the hood, it has a very rubberey texture to it..
