View Full Version : The government's proposal to introduce road pricing

TinyLoc UK
13-01-2007, 04:54 PM
Democracy in action? Pass it on before the Big Brother State becomes a reality...........

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a
tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will
cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a
rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take
the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will
be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast
you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can
probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please
sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people
as possible.

Yes you'r right Greg but thanks for your Support, what would you guys do in the US

Not enough people objected to the Congestion charge in London so it was brought in where next Bristol / Swansea / Manchester.

We have to stand up and be counted or just give all our hard earned cash straight to the Government

GregMik

It would not work here. We are too paranoid about our privacy. Look at the stink the "Patriot Act" has brought up. The act allows the gov't to snoop on international communication without a warrant. Ppl were up in arms because US citizens could be snooped on.

This country is getting ridiculous - says a lot when it pays more to be unemployed and claiming benefits rather than work your ass off to better yourself and work into a profession.
I work for a private company that works out of a PDSA centre - when leaving in the morning it is embarassing that the worst car in the car park is mine!!! The other day there were 2 mercedes, a BMW and a brand new Dodge 4X4!! and these are people too poor to pay for vet fees and are on government assistance!!!!!????????????? Oh, and my taxes pay for it:twisted:

I've just signed the petition, thinking as I did so of all the possible uses for them sending me an email I've then got to reply to before they'll accept my signing.... it is going to get scarier before things get any better. We've got a lot to worry about, if we let the wee tinkies grind us down. Don't pay anything the government asks for, and we'll find suddenly the whole country going on strike, all of it's own accord. But don't you think some weasly little government spy is reading all these messages of ours, logging us down as potentials? We're not giving you our taxes and fines, Mr Minister, unless you clean up this mess you've got us all into. And shut the gates, please, before we talk. This is Britain. The one that made an Empire, remember? Before it lost its bottle and starting brown-nosing the wrong Bush.

I don't think it is Bush that the british people have a gripe with. It is the fact that Blair spends all his time brown-nosing Bush when he should be back here sorting out our own problems. Blair is a major problem over here but sadly there doesn't seem to be anyone decent to take over from him. heaven help us when brown gets in:roll:

But we managed to stop the ban on tail docking for working dogs

They have forgotten that they were elected from the people by the people to represent the people
Not to control us and monitor our every move.

We have to stand up and be counted or the government will run all over us

Whilst we are on the subject of labour and their stupid legislation ideas, what about the proposal to charge higher road tax to 4x4 owners. I'm with you on that one. For those who need a 4X4 and those in countryside living there should be excemptions. The sloane rangers don't care if the price goes up as they can afford it. sadly, although we have a choice of parties, we don't have any real leaders. They come and go with nothing to say in the meantime. Most people don't even know who the liberal leader is now, not many know who the conservative leader is. What we need is a charasmatic leader who is going to govern this country for the people of this country. In my dreams i think:roll:

Its a load of rubbish this idea that 4x4 should pay more as we do anyway! we use more fuel so we pay more tax anyway!! this party has tried to say we are the green party and we will change things for the better! and with each idea and the heart of it is how much more money they can make!

Greg,
The Liberals are a little known political party that always comes third in any election. The present party in power is the " New Labour " party. They have tried to fool everyone into thinking that they are all touchy feely, and that they actually worry about the citizens of this island. That is all Bull of course!
You are correct in thinking that they have their roots in the factories and shipyards and coal mining towns. However after NINE years in power,it has become a case of "Bu##er the little man,I'll line my own pockets and look after number one"
PS - I am not a fan of Tony B-Liar!

According to The Times newspaper, the online poll received 92,000 signatures on Wednesday alone - thought to be a record for a day.

The paper says the Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander had agreed the number of signatries showed a strength of feeling among motorists.

But he said it would not deter him from commissioning large-scale road-pricing trials.

More than one million motorists have signed an online petition objecting to nationwide congestion charges.

The huge numbers opposing plans to extend the scheme already running in London is particularly embarrassing to the Government - because it is posted on the No 10 website.

The petition calls on ministers to "scrap the vehicle tracking and road-pricing policy" and was intended as an experiment in internet democracy.

No firm decision has yet been made on whether to introduce a national scheme, but Mr Alexander said regional trials would start in five years' time.

Got this from the GMTV site.

It does contradict itself,with the first line saying "MPs are to revolt over plans............" But later in the same article it says;

"But ministers vowed to press ahead with their plan, insisting it would control congestion and cut greenhouse gases."

MPs are to revolt over plans for a spy-in-the-sky road tax as a petition calling for it to be scrapped has reached one million signatures.

Former Transport Minister John Spellar is poised to lead the battle to block the controversial scheme to use satellite technology to charge motorists for every mile they drive.

Petition attracts attention

The petition was started three months ago, posted on the Downing Street website, and has reached 1,038,657 signatures, making it one of the biggest displays of public protest in modern history.

But ministers vowed to press ahead with their plan, insisting it would control congestion and cut greenhouse gases.

Work will begin this year on pilot local schemes to charge motorists up to 1.28p a mile during the rush hour. If it is successful, a national scheme will follow.

Tax on urban life

Mr Spellar said that since the early schemes would affect people living in big cities, they would effectively become a tax on urban life.

"Urban areas will pay more, because the congestion charging will be in urban areas, while rural areas benefit," he said.

"It is very unlikely that hard-working families will welcome being heavily taxed for going to work, especially as they already pay the highest fuel duty in Europe.

End of quote.

So lets wait and see what rubbish they come up with today.

Well, that's okay. Tony doesn't want us working anyway, isn't that why he pays everyone to have babies at 16, gives them a house and pays them to stay at home = it keeps people off the roads, they don't need to go to work:roll:

Agree, says something when it pays to be unemployed and living off benefits. I work out of a PDSA centre - when I leave in the morning you should see the cars!! In the last week there has been a Hummer, a Bentley and several BMW's!!! These are people on council tax benefits as they are so poor they can't afford to pay the full amount!!!! Wonder if they'd get discount on the road charging scheme too????
