I was in the car the other day and my dad asked me what do wild BOP do in the moult. If the moult starts in spring isn't that when they have chicks. So while our birds are put down for the moult and fed up with food their wild cousins are in are in the moult, protecting, teaching and feeding there chicks as well as hunting and holding there territory. :-?

They do what they've always done. Continue the cycle of life.

Because wild BOP are not bound by government regulations..Yet, they must keep on living, hunting, reproducing, etc. But as falconers we hunt for sport. So we want to give our quarry an opportunity to replenish itself. While our quarry is busy making and raising babies, we put our birds up for the moult. Although some states allow year around hunting on certain species. In which case take your hawk out and hunt right through the moult. ( sharp shins on sparrows or starlings come to mind).Point being a BOP doesnt have to be in perfect feather to live. But as falconers we want our birds to be in as near perfect condition as possible.

Bird control you fly through and bring birds into the moult early and late to ensure you have a team of effective birds.
Wild birds do not only catch the babies during the moult but adults as well because most species wil be moulting so neither has an advantage or disadvantage, it is just a cycle of life, in the wild birds just get on with it they do not have the luxury of a falconer to put them in a plush aviary and feed them up.
