Hi All

First two hood blocks should be with me by the end of next week. I will be getting a full range made up over this year, but I will concentrate on the most commonly used size ranges first :) The new "COBRA" hoods will fit like a Slijper hood but with the look and feel of a Dutch hood..... you will only have to give me one measurement taken from behind the eye (as shown below) for a perfect fit :)

http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/images/Slijper/Plates/PlateXXIVs.JPG

I will be promoting my three type's of hood based on this shape this year.... "The Slijper Hood", "The Sultan Hood" (also a blocked version of the Sultan) and "The Cobra Hood".

http://www.m-jhoods.co.uk/images/Cobra/cobra7.JPG

The new hood block has been designed on the principles of :-

Raptor

"Maximum" eye room.
An ergonomic fit for complete comfort.
Correct gape alignment & casting depth.
Easy hooding technique with no tapping adjustment.
A fit for Hawk & Falcon with an adjustment to gape pattern only prior to blocking.

Hood making

Instant pattern alignment.
Hood symmetry.
Easy grip stem for tooling and burnishing.

Hi SG

Sorry...... blocks are not for sale. The blocks are costing "me" £50 per block to get made on average..... but the composite material they are being made from is as hard as granite and used to form steel at high pressure...... so they should last for a bit :D

If your Lugger is about 46mm in measurement then the COBRA size 100 will be the correct size for her....... the Male Ferrug could be around a 52mm fit so the COBRA size 117 might do the trick..... I can send you a tester if you want to try it :D

hmmm, i think the ferrug wants to be about 65mm at least (does that sound wrong flies 2.7-1/2. , he's a good size 11 bog standard dutch but they don't really fit him and have given up hooding cos its only gonna be a negative thing with a ill-fitting hood, problems are wet eye after about 5mins and closes too tight.
i know the bog standard dutch is wrong for a ferrug, hense the interest in the cobra.
would definately be interested in a couple of testers, promise not to f* em up. and will pack them neatly for return postage, is it worth you blocking a couple of quick1's (no neck band etc just blocked and braces) i can scive and draw in, take pics of then send back for a good'n?

pics to follow when i get home.

i recon 48mm is the f lugger.

Hi Agent D

Size 11 = Tait 21 or 52-53mm Slijper so I think we might be OK with the 117 COBRA (Gyr/Saker Male size)..... its probably on the smaller side though.

If the F Lugger is a 48.... then it will be a couple of weeks before I get that size in the new blocks :D

with greatest respect i think its way bigger then a m gry\saker, but i quess i should go measure the thing, the current hood (size11) is about 60mm across the eyes, and is too small??
will measure it tho to be sure, thanks

Hi Agent D

Ooooops my mistake..... I was in Rollins block mode..... if its a size 11 Rollins blocked hood .... then your looking at Male Red tail size......... so I made the mistake of that assumption. Ferrug Male & Female are normally around Blocks 13-14..... so yes you are absolutley correct .... my mistake  I will be getting those sizes in 2-3 weeks time :D

Hi Dylan

If you take a good look at the shape of the hoods you make (in your pics) and then take a good look at the shape of my block you will understand why the COBRA is the shape it is :D
