Ladies and gentlemen, it really gives me great pleasure in welcoming Jim to the realms of an IFF Sponsor!

Not just is he a real gent and helpful wealth of knowledge on the forum but he also makes cracking sheath to protect your hawks tail from damage.

Keep supporting Jim in this venture that started as a mere helpful service to other falconers and has steadily grown to become the most commonly purchased tail sheath in the world, I dare say?

Jim keeps improving the design and always keeps abreast of what the sheath is doing and here we can keep him more informed and give him more info and feedback on how the guards are performing in the field?

ONCE AGAIN JIM!!! Thank you for helping to keep the IFF online and may your business flourish from strength to strength.

Cheers the IFF Team

PS Ladies and gents and ex customers let see your tail sheath pictures?

£10 including postage.

They are mounted and free moving over the bell, will fit over the transmittter whilst fitted - no need to remove the transmitter whilst in the field or travel box.

Likewise but then I thought much better to see the condition of the tail after a hard seasons flying, than a picture of the sheath. Not the clearest picture but the only one I have at work, you can see the tips of the tail (taken mid Jan).

Although I did find I had to trim Jim’s tail sheath down a little as it was a tad long for my female spar. I have to admit I wouldn’t pick up any accipiter without one. Excellent nice and light easy enough to put on and the most important thing is they don’t come apart or fall off.
Worth every penny of a £10 . Alf.

They are not only used on accipiters.

Thanks Alf,
With the latest batch I'm asking people the length of tailsheath required, by measuring from bell to the end of the tail feathers - this should provide an ideal fit. Otherwise I make a good judgement, which will always err on the side of caution and be slightly longer.

Do they require a tail bell, or do they work with only a tail mounted transmitter? I assume you need something tail mounted to make them work.
(never seen a tail guard used in the flesh, please excuse me if this is a silly question)

Just a reminder to the people who have recently bought a tailsheath and haven't use it on their hawk yet.

To remove the tailsheath when fitted on the hawk, there's no need to undo the velcro - just squeeze the tailsheath (it then forms a tube shape) then pull it straight down, it will clear the bell or transmitter easily.

The only time you need to open up the tailsheath is when fitting it, this can be fitted with one hand quickly and effortlessly whilst on the glove or kill over the bell and transmitter (no need to remove transmitter).

The tailsheath is supplied without the bell opening being cut out, the shape is marked BUT you need to cut it out with a stanley knife to the indicated shape (as marked out on the leather section).

Yours Jim.

Photgraph below of tailsheath fitted whilst on a kill with transmitter still attached under the tail protecter.
