How long from food passing to the first lot of semen, reason I ask is my mentors Imprint male has just started passing food bits to him whilst displaying to him. This is the first year he has done this.

Hello Colin,
I realised Harold was a male  , just wondered if the seman was going into a female gos soon - March being early for eggs.

The female imprint gos I have on loan is calling to me and displaying now but no idea how far from laying.

Yours Jim.

Steve not sure how the rest of the guys do it but my short clips are first taken from my camera and are placed in a folder on my computer then I upload them to photobucket you need to register with photobucket first. Once you have registered you can upload photos or video to photobucket it asks you what you want to upload if it’s a video you click on the tab saying vidioe then brows this will take you to your folder click on the video you want then open and then click upload.
Your vidioe depending on how long it lasts may take a few minutes to upload once it has uploaded a picture of your vid appears a little lower down the page at the bottom of the picture there is a tab saying IMG CODE left click on this and then copy, then its just a matter of retuning to ff pressing past under your post you want to send to us.
Hope this makes sense mate. Alf.

Sorry guys, just a quick question I have: it is possible that a femmale gos ( imprint ) lay eggs and breed next year, if she will be a 2007 imprint ?
If I get her this year, imprint her ( and a male ), next year I will be able to colect semen from the male and breed with the femmale? Or would be they too young ???

Best regards and thankyou!

Sergui,
Lots of Finnish goshawks lay eggs as brown birds and I have known of males donating at the same stage. You should speak to Billy Casper on the forum. He has bred from generations of brown birds.

There are benefits if you want to breed gosses. It seems that because of their laid back nature ,full Finnish goshawks regularly lay when less than a year old.I believe Mick Kane manages it all the time and has done so several generations in a row.

Nice one steve......
As u know its the 1st breeding yr with my imprint Female Gos(belgium import).
Im not sure exactly how she was reared but at the moment she is showing some imprint characteristics.. eg.... not crashing around in open chamber, looking after her feathers, flashing coverts and taking food off ledge.
On the other hand she has periods of alarm calling whether she sees me or not ? Also I have nt noticed any nest buiding but she have carried sticks to the ledge so I tried passing the stick back for building but shes not impressed!
She seems to be sending me different signals.:-x ...flashing coverts one minute the next alarm calling and looking very close to attack mode. She seems to be eating most of the grub on the nest and not really looking to keep the nest area clean.
At this moment in time she don t seem to know what she is ?? Half gos half human   Any feedback from the forum would be welcomed.

Hi Andy i would phone you but i'v got to be up for work in the morning  It sounds like she's coming into condition teritorial kekking and flared tail coverts and that ,but as for passing twigs to her you would be better off getting a load of and i mean a load of leylandy and larch twigs and go in with her and build her a nice big nest it will **** her off while your doing it but when she settles back down the sight of the nest should trigger her off . Having had that problem for years, I know how frustrating it can be. You really HAVE to have your own donor male to do it right! I finally got one to start giving last season, and he has done well for us this season. Do you have some semen available for the other eggs she'll be laying?

Ms Havoc has started incubating the three eggs she has laid. There may be another, but it will be a bit late if so. Desire should have another one this afternoon, and we can expect two more after that; just hoping Cronus will continue to put out to cover them! Then again, what she has in her now should cover another two.

Were you able to get any semen to cover the rest of her eggs? One good load could do 2 or three of them.

Ms Havoc continued standing for me after the 4th egg, but she's not going to give up another one. Should have caught all four of hers if there isn't a problem with her. Been trying for so long that I'm afraid to get my hopes up too much!

Desire laid her fourth egg today. Cronus had stopped giving during the extreme weather we had, so we may have missed the third one, but he started up again in time for the fourth, so we're hoping. Hopefully she had enough good stuff in her to catch that third one!?

Thanks! You can also keep them crossed for Desires three good ones, though..... :supz: Ms Havoc's are due in about two weeks and Desire's about a week and a half later.

CUL,

My bad, thought you meant that Desire only had one, infertile egg left all in all. Don't know how I got that one into my head . Lucky number seven it is then! I hope they all hatch and grow up into some fine specimens of North American Goshawks for you and others to enjoy.

All the best,
/Magnus

had a disaster today came home from work today and checked the birds on eggs only to find that the gos has broken one of her eggs which are due to pip on sunday
all i can say is that i'm gutted because it was fertile but i suppose she is still only a baby herself but i've taken the others now and put them in the incubator and given her some chicken eggs to sit on so hopefully they will hatch
cheers colin
