Today I had one female gyr/saker laid her first egg!! Her name is Lina and she has been standing for the last 2 and a half weeks.
Later on in the afternoon my female peregrine laid her first one, she has been standing for about a week and a bit. Very nice eggs, both deep red in color.
I left the peregrine egg but secretly removed Linas. She has been standing fine all day and dont seem to mind the egg being removed! Im very very pleased!
Another 2 female gyr/sakers are also standing really well, and a third one coming in to it.....

well done sarah? i had a funny one today, went over to feed the birds and found a new pair of barbaries had laid an egg on a perch? right in the middle of the pen, i went in and found she had a large scrape with another egg in it so i put it in there? i allso noticed ive got rats!! 1st time ever, do people think the two could be linked and what can i do about the rats? i dont want to put poison down? i have one spare pen and am thinking of borrowing an eagle owl to put in it ? what do ya think?
Keith sticks some fen traps out along the sides of the outside of your aviaries, dig a shallow so the trap is level with the ground place a couple of bricks with a peace of wood or a roof slate on top so it forms a tunnel a rat will always stick to the side of a wall, when I worked as an under keeper used to catch loads of them this way. Keith, do as Alf says, put them at ground level. I have 2 fenn traps permanently set round my place, completely cover the plate and metalwork with some light dry leafy type stuff as rats are clever and wont just readily walk across the steel plate. Set it in a tunnel, and you shud see some results very soon.
If ya struggling, giz a ring.

Have had qiuite a bit of bad luck so far. First loosing my female eg laying peregrine as you all know by now, then my other female egg layer laid one egg, and nothing more. It is 11 days ago since she laid and she is still standing like a train, but no eggs??!!
I have put 2 dummy eggs with her (2 days ago) to let her sit for a week, will pull and see if she will re cyckle, but I get the feeling something ust be wrong. She is still very homonal (over hormonal) and stands so well, but just do not lay!!!
I have 3 female white gyr/sakers down on eggs, one on 3 one on 4 one on 5 (but have pulled 2 so she is only sat on 3)
and all of them still stands, looks like large clutches this year.
Another peregrine female (3 years old) started to stand today for the first time, got 2 excellent inseminations, but she does not draw, she might not even lay as she is only young.
So on the Peregrine side Im not doing well at all :(
But on gyr/sakers Im doing fantastic.

Female peregrine 3 years old laied her first egg around 20:00 hours tonight. Got a fantastic insemination around 22:00 hours so Im very pleased.
Strange though, I have; 2 year old birds standing and drawing, 3 year old birds laying, 4 year old birds doing nothing and a 4 year old bird who breed for 2 years (laid 2 clutches of 4 last year) stopped after first egg!!?? And all of them are peregrines!!
Nothing seem to make any sence at all!!
