will pm you
land rover defender is the best off road vehicle you can buy, but then aint the most ellegant, depends what you want mate, if you're just getting a 4x4 cos it fits falconry and you probably never will use 4x4 then a good astate car is better, modern 4x4 are basicaly estate cars with a 4x4 facillity with the added burden of not having much space, disco's have little space in the back unless you drop the seats and that goes for most 4x4's, toyota surfs probably have the most space rearwards but are heavy on juice, a two seater deffender has ample backspace, having been designed for two people and work in mind.

Toyota hilux surf 3 litre, or a 2.4 with a brand knew head ,but do your homework, and shop around, and dont be put off by the asking price as you can knock up to a grand off it, there are some real bargains out there.

Toyota hilux surf 3 litre,
:supz: veg oil edition  :supz:
a defender is the best best if you dont mind somthing a little agricultural and i sware by them however for a 3k buget you aint going to get th ebest one in the world. although they are very basic they hol dthe value tremendously well.
I woudnt touch a hilux surf ful stop, can be very problematic if you dont pick th eright one. Wouldnt touch a 2.5 in a surf or a pajero as they are notorious for head gasket problems and are underpowered. 2.8 has better power, same mpg and is less probematic.
For the budject, You wont go far wrong with a diahatsu fourtrac, an early trooper short wheel base (built like tanks and go forever) or a clean 300 tdi 90
Another option would be a discovery, same basics as a defender but a few more creature comforts !

I love my 110 defender. Gets you where you want to be. I got mine for £2200 it had an engine rebuild but is lacking on the pretty side. A respray is going to sort that though hopefully get round to it this year.
